How could we not be thrilled to welcome our very own Katie the Scrapbook Lady back to The Daily Digi. Katie has been a integral part of The Daily Digi from the very beginning and although she isn’t around as much anymore, she is far from forgotten. Katie’s templates are the perfect go-to source for scrapping inspiration. Her simple photo-centric style reminds us of what is most important — the photos and the people in them. Katie’s contribution to The Digi Files is packed with great scrapping inspiration. Katie's template contribution this month is EXTRA special because not only do you get her regular templates, she collaborated with Studio Wendy to bring you Lightroom versions and tutorials too. How cool!
This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! All of that, including access to exclusive collaborations every four months you are a member, for only $7.50 total per month! I live in and love Utah and have spent most of my life here. My husband and I have known each other and been friends since we were in the 7th grade and we have been married for almost 24 years. I have a 21 year old son (who has high functioning autism) and an 18 year old daughter. I love LEGOS (especially the mini-figs), Harry Potter, cookies, reading, and playing with photos and digi goodies on my computer.
I created this vision board style layout last January to inspire my word for the year of "forward" (Ali Edwards' One Little Word). Having this page done actually contributed to my year-long success with this word. Whenever I would think about how I was doing on my goals, I would mentally picture this layout and it would inspire me. I finally got it printed out to hang in my office and I plan to keep it there for ongoing motivation, even though I will be choosing a new word for 2015.
I was a paper scrapbooker from the time I was 14 years old and was happily addicted for more than 20 years. I started digi scrapping in 2005 after looking through a special edition magazine about digital techniques. I was fascinated by what I saw and jumped right in and never looked back. My paper days were over and I’m still passionate about digital memory keeping.
n 2012, I decided to get into designing templates after I realized that I was drastically altering all of the pre-made template I was using to get the look I wanted. I really like big photo spaces and/or multiple photo spaces. Another important part of scrapping for me is telling the story so I like to be sure to add good options for titles and journaling. I’ve created more than 50 sets of templates since then and most of those packs have 4 or more templates in them so I’m well into the 200 number now of templates I’ve designed and I still have plenty of ideas that I want to tackle.
My templates are really centered around photographs because they are the illustrations of our stories. I usually have a few specific photos in mind as I design a page or else I’m thinking about how to showcase pictures in a visually pleasing way. A good page design can make all the difference in how your memories are presented!
Computer: I use an ASUS laptop with Windows 8.1 (which was traumatic for me to switch to after using other Windows editions - lol). I have 8 GB of RAM and I have a 1TB Seagate hard drive. I had an EHD failure last fall, but I had everything backed up to the cloud using Flickr, Google Drive, and Dropbox Pro so I didn't lose anything. Make sure you are backing up!
Program: Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 for all my designing and scrapping. Adobe Lightroom 5 for photo organization and editing. Microsoft Word for typing long passages of journaling.
Camera: I have a Nikon D90 DSLR and a Canon S100 Point and Shoot and I love them both. Honestly though, I mostly use my iPhone 6 camera and it does a great job!
Anything Else: I love my iPad mini and I use it every day. I'm a geek about good technology!
Every time I finish a layout, I immediately upload it to Flickr so I have a full size resolution backup copy in another location besides my computer. If I'm not ready to share it with others, I just mark it as private or only viewable to family. When I want to post my creation publicly, I download a smaller resolution size of that same layout from Flickr and then upload that one to share. There is no need to make the full size page available to the general public and then I have both a high resolution and web copy ready to access in my Flickr account.
My Smashing template set is quite different than a lot of my other sets, but it really is one of my favorites. It is the set I used to create my vision board layout and I love the multiple layers all smashed together. It's a really fun one to scrap with!
My Spreads template pack is one of my newest sets, but it is already my bestseller. It's an extremely versatile collection because it comes with double page size templates (24x12) and all the 12x12s so you can mix and match sides or even use them as single page designs. I have used them for a ton of my own layouts already!
