Chelle's Creations: Cinnamon-y, Chocolate-y Goodness

DesignerLogo Since Chelle was in The Digi Files the first time, I've had the pleasure of getting together with her on 3 or 4 occassions in real life. I still LOVE Chelle's themed designs as much as I did back then. I find myself using and then reusing several of her kits because I love them so much. Chelle is a master of creating alphas as well as felt/stitched elements. I especially love her plaid papers. Chelle is such a genuine and down-to-earth person and I look forward to getting to spend any bit of time with her when we happen to be attending the same event.  Let’s take a closer look at "Bluebird On My Shoulder" that is included in The Digi Files this month:

This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! All of that, including access to exclusive collaborations every four months you are a member, for only $7.50 total per month! Here are some layouts created using Chelle's Creations’s contribution:

layout This layout is one of my favorites, probably because it captures the joyful moment my children were sharing. Using the collage templates made it super quick and easy to include all the photos to tell the story. I’m usually scrapping photos from the previous year, but these photos were begging to be scrapped, so I made this layout right after I took them.

started I’ve been scrapping forever. In my first scrapbooking class I was taught to mat my photos with construction paper and attach them with rubber cement. LOL! Over the years I’ve filled 45 albums…but most are one copy for the family and one copy for each of my children. Yes, that was very time consuming with paper scrapping. About 10 years ago I became disillusioned with scrapping trends…it seemed to be more about putting a lot of "stuff" on the page than about the photos and the story. I didn’t scrap anything for two years. When I came back to scrapping a few years later, I did printed hardbound books with just pictures and story and a few basic papers and elements I’d created myself. Then 5 years ago I accidentally stumbled on the digi-scrapping world and found that I could BUY digital scrapbooking supplies. I was in heaven. But I still liked creating some of my own papers and elements. Four years ago I competed a design competition and was offered a position in a store. Designing & hosting my designer’s & scrapper’s clubs has become my full-time job. And I LOVE it!

inspired My photos are my main source of inspiration…I usually design kits that I need to scrap my own photos. But the longer I do this, the more ideas I see everywhere. I might drive my kids crazy: "C’mon Mom. What are you doing?" "Just getting a closer look. Wouldn’t this make a great pattern?" (eye-roll) LOL!

tools Computer: I design on a 17" MacBookPro with 16GB Ram. I take it with me wherever I go. Probably because I'm quite attached to it, but I tell myself that I have it with me so I can get work done if I have to wait (at the doctor, carpool, etc). Program: I design primarily with Photoshop CS6 & Illustrator CS6. But I keep CS4 around for those quirks in CS6 I haven't solved yet. Camera: I use my Cannon CanoScan 880F to scan flat things to extract, memorabilia, and pre-digi photos. I take photos for designing with my Nikon D5000. But for scrapping, I'm using my iphone more and more. Anything Else: My favorite toy tool is my Wacom Cintiq tablet: it’s a screen/tablet combination, so I don’t need to have great eye-hand coordination. I can draw right on the screen. tipstricks You can make changes to the layers palette in photoshop & photoshop elements to make things easier to see. In the upper right hand corner of your layers palette there is a little icon that looks like 4 lines with an arrow. Click on that icon and choose Panel Options from the drop down menu. My favorite choices are the large thumbnail size and "layer bounds" for the thumbnail. For me those options make it easier to see what is on each layer.

favorite I always seem to like my most recent kit, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be Summer Lovin’. It reminds me of my childhood summers: riding our bikes up to the town "store" to buy a bottle of pop, eating strawberries off the vine before they were hardly ripened, & my grandmother’s gingham aprons while we picked & shelled peas.

DesFav popular My hand-drawn marker & scribbles alphas are probably my best selling product, but my best selling kit is Lovin’ From the Oven. I love the nostalgic feel of this kit. And I have plenty of helping-Mom-in-the-kitchen photos to scrap with it. I can almost smell the cinnamon-y, chocolate-y goodness when I look at it. YUM
