Janet and I go way back. I remember first getting to know her while on a team in about 2005, one of my very first teams. I was also one of Janet’s first creative team members when she started selling templates. I was thrilled to join her in her new venture called: The Daily Digi at the end of 2008 and bought it from her almost a year later.
I have always, always been mesmerized with Janet’s layouts! She has an innate ability to design simple, sophisticated, and stunning layouts! I was thrilled when she started designing templates and have always enjoyed scrapping with them! Janet’s templates make my heart sing! Let’s take a closer look at “A Special Collection” that is included in The Digi Files this month:
This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! My name is Janet Phillips and I am the happy mama to five little ones. We live in Indonesia where my husband teaches at an international school. Currently, we are enjoying an extended visit to the States and we are taking advantage of all the yummy food and cool sites. In addition to being mom, homeschooling, and designing templates, I blog about parenting, am an aspiring photographer, and I have even written a book. I have far more dreams than I have time or money to see come to fruition!
I love this layout! It really sums up my simple style of scrapping. I am convinced that simple doesn’t have to equal boring. I like to create eye-catching pages that tell a story. It also has the little things that make a “Janet” page: a few elements, a date, my sweet kids, and (at least) a bit of real journaling.

I always wanted to be a paper scrapper and for many years, I considered myself to be one. But after many years I only had a handful of pages done and a growing pile of photos in my “to be scrapped” pile. A friend of mine was moving and gave me all her old scrapping magazines. I came across and article on digital scrapbooking and I was intrigued. I bought Photoshop Elements and Photoshop Elements 3 for Dummies and I never looked back. Seven years and 1500 pages later, I love it just as much as I did when I first started.
I started creating and selling templates in September 2006. I wanted to have a role in the digi world and templates seemed like a good fit for me. I’ve been honored to sell in some of the best stores in the industry and I have made Sweet Shoppe Designs my home for the past three years.
As much as I love designing, I am first and foremost a scrapper. In fact, there have been times I have wanted to quit designing but the fear that I would stop scrapping has kept me from giving up. I love preserving my family’s memories!
Lots of stuff! Pretty photographs, a new kit, a longing to tell a story. There are lots of ways to get inspired and I just see what works when I sit down.
Computer: I run on an iMac with 4 gigs of RAM. Switching to Mac (back in 2007) was hard and I even regretted it for a few weeks, but now I can’t imagine ever going back. I love my Mac and even more, I love that after four years it is still going strong!
Program: I do 99% of my designing in Photoshop Elements. I started back with PSE 3 and have moved up through the years and am now using version 10. I LOVE PSE and wish that more people understood what a powerful program it is.
Camera: I am happy to say that I am now the proud owner of a Canon 7D. Until June, I shot on a 40D. I have a slight love affair with my 50mm 1.4 lens but my 100mm macro and my Tamron 28-75 are also well-loved.
Anything Else: I used to do all my photo editing in Photoshop Elements as well, but I have made the switch to Lightroom (in January 2012) and I am in LOVE!
If you want to take better photos, you need to do two very important things: 1) Take more pictures. 2) Look at great photography. I started following a number of blogs back in 2006 and I know that seeing quality work inspired me to get better at photography and also taught me to take off the “mommy goggles” and look at my photos critically.
I love my EASY ALBUM template sets. Putting together albums for friends and family is so easy. There are five different left sided pages and five different right sided pages, giving the scrapper 25 different page combinations. I used this set and created a 20 page album in about two hours!
I actually created this template in 2006, just a few weeks after I started designing. A few years later, I rereleased it in a new and improved form. It has continued to be my best seller!
