Give Your Pages Some Personality!

DesignerLogo

Re (prounced Ray in English) was our youngest designer to join The Digi Files a couple of years ago at 15 and he still holds that title as he joins us again, and I'm so happy to have him here! I have really enjoyed seeing Re evolve as a designer and love that his designs are coming straight from his heart! I love his word art and bits of ephemera he includes in his kits. I really enjoyed visiting with Re during his interview for the Digest about his life in Brazil and his designs, dreams, and ambitions! I can't wait to see where he goes! Take a listen here:

Let’s take a closer look at "Personality" that is included in The Digi Files this month:

I was born in Juiz de Fora, Brazil - about 2 hours from Rio de Janeiro. I'm a teenager so I don't have kids or a wife, I don't even have a girlfriend yet. lol This year I'm going to college and I'm very undecided about what I'm going to study. Well, that's my life!

layout I love music, even more than scrapbooking. I can't create anything without listen to a good song and sing along. lol So, I made this layout about my true passion. I took these pictures and I made these "single covers" for my written songs. Someday I'll get the chance to show my talent, but I don't know where I can start.

started This year, I'll turn 5 years of scrapbooking as a designer. From 2010 until 2012 I was such a child, begging for recognition and stuff, but last year I decided to grow up. Well, I started as a scrapper in 2008, when I was 12 years old, and in the beginning of 2009 I started creating some freebies. Only in the end of 2009 and beginning of 2010 I started selling, so I consider 2010 my 'debuting year'. I've been through a few shops during my journey, but now I decided I'll stay where I am for a long time. I'm not answering the question because I think you already know my story, right? lol I started creating with my sister, Ju Kneipp, and our friend Raquel (aka Kel) but it didn't last too long. After 1 month with them, I started my solo career, selling at SUN, then at DSB and SBG. ScrapbookGraphics was my last shoppe as Re Kneipp, but it helped me a lot to be more creative. After SBG, I decided to stop designing, but I couldn't do it because I loved what I was doing. Then, I created The Hidden Heart, my 'new' brand at that time, and I started selling at After Five, one of the best shoppes to be, everyone there was so cool! No doubt, it was my favorite shoppe. But then it closed and I went to Oscraps, where I am today. Oscraps is fantastic, I love everyone there and the organization is fantastic. I retired from The Hidden Heart and now I'm back to Re Kneipp, because I thought THH was very weird. This is my story in scrapworld.

inspired My feelings inspire me to create. Weird, right? But when I am very happy or when I'm mad I feel more inspired to create something. I always have good ideas at these occasions, specially when I'm mad.

tools Computer: I use a Dell Laptop with Windows 7. It has 6gb RAM and 1tb HD. It's a laptop so I don't have more than 1 monitor. Program: I use Photoshop CS6 and sometimes Illustrator and Corel Draw. Camera: I have a Nikon D3000. I really like it. Anything Else: I have a Bamboo Capture (Wacom). It's old but works perfectly, maybe next year I change it for a larger one.

tipstricks First, for designers: be original. I'm trying to do that since last year and it's working. If the amount of Commercial Use products around the scrapworld, it's easy to create cool and high qualities products. But, to stand out, we need to try something new, take risks. Even if we use a CU product, we need to change it to make it our own, know what I mean? So, my advice is: take risks. And a trick I always use is play with layers. How? Create an element with more than only one layer: use one shape for 'base', one for brushes, another for paper piece, one for stitching, etc. It will make your product more attractive. Now, for scrappers: choose what you want to highlight in your layout before starting it. For example, I have an amazing photo and I want to highlight it, so it needs to be bigger and the elements and paper need to work with it but they can't overshadow the picture. Another example, I'm a CT member and I need to draw attention to my boss' product, what do I do? The photo isn't the priority anymore, so it will be a bit smaller. The elements - or the paper - need to stand out in this page, so try to put them a bit bigger than you usually do when you want to highlight the photo. Oh! Another tip for scrappers is: NEVER forget to add shadows to your layouts. If you use only brushes, you can't add shadows to them, but if you use flowers, ribbons, etc, don't forget to add shadows. If you want to make them more real, go to Edit>Transform>Warp and play with the shape of the shadow.

favorite A few months ago, I was very upset because I wasn't creating what I wanted to and, consequently, my sales got worse. Then I was trying to figure out what was happening and my 'shopmate' gave me an idea, she said: "Re, why don't you create something with your point of view? You're a teenager and a boy, you need to take this as your advantage." I like that idea and then I started to create my new collection, My Point Of View, and I'm luvin' the result. Cool colors, funky elements and creative themes. That's me and now I'm happy with my style.

DesFav popular Believe me or not, but my first product as Re Kneipp was my most popular product. I think people like the colors and the special elements I created for this elements pack. I was inspired to create a summer kit because you, in the North, we in the summer season but we, in the South, were in the winter and it was very cold. I wanted to see the sun and that's why I made this kit. I was guesting at a shop and they have a project which each designer needs to create a product with the same color swatch from the others, then I created these packs with the chosen colors.
