Secret Garden

I wanted to use a journal card for this layout for my journaling. While this kit had some pretty journal cards, it didn’t have any set aside for journaling. So I did a search for journal cards on my computer and came across this journal card. I used my magic wand to separate the lines into a layer and again to separate the bracket shape. I then placed various papers from the kit onto the card and sized them to fit the card (they’ll come in small). I made a layer mask to erase the dark areas that came in with the lines and saved the element as a PNG file.

My daughter and a couple of her friends were asked to help an aspiring photographer create some photos for his website. I got these photos off Facebook (with his permission) and because the resolution isn’t great, I kept them small. A few must’ve been uploaded on a higher resolution because I found one I could enlarge. And it worked perfectly for my big photo!

As a memorial page to my grandfather, I wanted to keep it clean and simple. I originally only had 3 papers – the green pattern and the two green solids. It didn’t feel quite complete, so rather than adding more embellishments, I added some more paper – adding to the background rather than the foreground, so as to not distract from the subject.

When working with papers, contrast can make a big difference on your layout. You create contrast by alternating bright with dark colors, and by switching between solid and patterned papers.
