Hello everyone my name is Emma, but call me Em. I’m an Aussie living on the Gold Coast in sunny, Queensland with my husband and son.

We are very spoilt living up here, because its Summer all year round and we have such a diverse environment right in our own backyard. This is ideal for us as a FIFO family. It’s not unusual to find our family on a road trip exploring our beautiful white sandy beaches, mountain ranges, rainforests and stopping off at many bustling country towns along the way, oh and just quietly there might well be a certain someone rummaging through all the bric ‘a’ brac stores found in country towns…scoff!

I love this page, its colourful, textured and layered, my main 3 key ingredients when making pages. It also encapsulates a pivotal point in life when I realised that I couldn’t allow my depression to define me anymore. Thankfully that little black dog is no longer nipping at my heels and I feel like this page is full of promise, hopefulness and joyfulness.

I started scrapbooking a quizzillion years ago after watching an interview with Lisa Bearnson on the Oprah Winfrey Show. I saw this lady talking about scrapbooking and knew that this was going to quickly become an obsession of mine. For a number of years I scrapbooked and then I stumbled across digital scrapbooking. Oh wow…my world just opened up! Digital scrapping allowed me to scrap more freely and more affordably.

I began making ‘Page Drafts’ sketch templates, sharing them with anyone who wanted them. It wasn;t long before I started hearing from digital scrapbookers asking if I would consider making editable layered templates, so they could use them more easily. Around the same time I was customising blogger templates for friends and realised that essentially I was building a popular little digital design business.

Then Scrapstacks were looking for designers so I decided to take the plunge and apply. I didn’t expect to be offered a spot but hoped to get some feed back and constructive advice. Penny saw potential and offered me my first shop… WOW… lets just say I was floating on cloud 9 for weeks. Those first few short months before the store closed its doors was my training ground and I knew I had more to learn and wanted to find a new home that would help me grow. Then I met Kim at The Digichick and knew that was going to be the perfect fit for me and my little brand, The Nifty Pixel.

I am still very much a newbie with lots more to learn but hey I am having fun and feel very lucky to have a chance at doing something I absolutely love everyday and meeting lots of fabulous new creative friends along the way!

I once heard a saying ‘When a person dies, a library closes.’ This really resonates with me because it’s such a powerful reminder that documenting your life and those around you is like rendering little glimpses into another time for future generations, each one just like a teeny time capsule. For me scrapbooking has been the perfect tool to encapsulate that.

An immense part of my daily life is spent documenting the memories of my family, friends & our adventures. No matter how insignificant they may seem the highs and lows and all those precious moments in between are what I want to capture and love the process of designing elements and papers to help convey them.

Oh and then there is PINTEREST!

Computer: iMAC OS X El Capitan

Program: I mainly use Photoshop CS6, PSE 8 and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4
yep thats right just the basics, I’m a fairly uncomplicated kinda gal!

Camera: I have my old trusty Canon EOS 550D, its like a favourite woollen jumper and something I just can’t part with. I also use my iPhone a lot these days because its handy, right there easily grabbed when that perfect snapshot presents itself!

Anything Else: NA

I love minimal white space pages but when it comes to creating some eye catching visual content I treat my scrapbooking much like when I worked as a Visual Marketer…leave no gaps!

I find those pesky gaps can be the one thing your eye is drawn to, so adding lots of layered and stacked elements in clusters, with some of the key elements having directional shadowing for added realism, is a fun way to create drama in your projects.

Adrift Collection~ I love the eclectic whimsical mish mash of this kit. It’s filled to the brim with flotsom and jetsam and some hidden gems for just a touch of bling. I love positive affirmations and this kit symbolises finding your way along the journey of self discovery. It’s also a good one for creating pages about lazy days at the beach or equally as good for adventure themes making it a really versatile collection.

I starting thinking about how I felt like I was not taking the time to just BE! With our world quickening and the added pressures of daily life we tend to forget to look after ourselves.

This kit is all about taking time to reflect, about slowing down and just going with the flow. I think thats why its popular, the sentiment is simple and were all wanting to give ourselves the permission to take stock and reflect every now and then. The colours are pretty and were chosen because of their old world charm and softness. Check out the Painted papers that coordinate they are delicious!
