We are so excited to welcome Studio Wendy back to The Digi Files. Wendy amazes me…not just because she does so much behind the scenes here at The Daily Digi, but also because of all of the amazingly helpful products she consistently creates over at Scrapbook Graphics. Her skills in helping and teaching others to simplify and speed up their scrapping process are invaluable. I adore the two fonts Wendy created for this month’s Digi Files. Both are so fun and useful. Let’s take a closer look.

This year, I teamed up with Jen Maddocks and Julie Southern (of Sherwood Studio) to host a Faith-booking group. This is one of my first doodles using my new Bamboo Spark and will probably become the front cover of my zentangle bible verse mini album. My motto is come as you are, and I hope with practice, my art will match my vision! (Everyone is welcome. It’s free to join and you’re welcome to do any kind of faith-booking project and share it with us!)

I’m a graphic designer by trade, and stumbled across this amazing hobby in 2006. I’ve been digi scrapping ever since! This February, I celebrate 9 years of creating templates, tools, actions and classes for my fellow digi scrappers. I’m passionate about automating repetitive tasks and helping others improve their Photoshop and Lightroom skills so they can capture, record and share their memories. I’m also a huge fan of photobooks and getting pages printed, and a big advocate of backing up your files, photos and layouts especially! This year, I added fonts to my product line and am excited to share two of them with you in this month’s Digi Files.

I love to make the most of the time I have. So much of what you find in my store is designed to help automate or speed up repetitive tasks, freeing you up to do more of what you love and less of the busy work. Whenever I find myself doing the same thing twice, I ask myself how I can automate it or improve the process. I also love helping people, so I enjoy the challenge of a customer request, teaching, and mentoring.

tools

Computer: Yosemite (Still debating El Capitan, I don’t like change!) • MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) • 2.7 ghz Intel Core i7 • 16gb ram • 500gb solid state drive • 500gb Seagate Slim EHD, 3TB, 2TB and 1TB EHDs (Fantom and Western Digital brands)

Program: Creative Cloud 2015 (Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat); Photoshop Elements 13; Screenflow 5

Camera: Canon T1i, iPhone 6 and Canon ELPH

Anything Else: Canon Selphy 910, Bamboo Spark

tipstricks

Back up your presets! In Photoshop CC, Adobe introduced cloud syncing of presets. Unfortunately, in their most recent update to CC2015, they removed that option and rumor has it they will be shutting down that service. I’m very sad to learn this as the ability to keep my presets backed up to my Creative Cloud account was very attractive. So, now I need to get back in the habit of saving my brushes, actions, styles and workspaces so I don’t have to reload them when Photoshop crashes. Need a video on how to do this? Pick up my video tutorial free with any purchase at
Studio Wendy (no coupon required). Offer expires: 02-17-16

I have been relying on Lightroom for much of my scrapping in the past couple years. Since my photos are organized in Lightroom, it’s so easy to drag and drop the photos onto the page layouts and export them to Photoshop for decorating. It’s a seriously fast way to scrap and I love that I can spend the majority of the scrapping time I have playing with my supplies.

Lifting An Old Page

Lifting An Old Page

Have you ever lifted one of your old pages? It’s fun and we should do it more often! After all, if you are starting with a page you love, you will probably like the lift! Some page designs just feel right and should definitely be repeated.

The 2010 Page

Back in 2010, I made this page about finances for a digital scrapbooking journaling challenge. It’s one of those pages that came together effortlessly. That’s how I know it’s my style. Simple, linear designs work for me. They’re easy to put together and this page was especially easy because I started with a template. It was simply a matter of clipping papers and adding a few finishing touches.

Supplies: Page template (modified) from The Fat Pack 3 by Janet Phillips, Papers, alpha and elements from The Reason Why by Kristen Cronin-Barrow and Meghan Mullins, Date from Label Maker Dates by Shawna Clingerman

The 2016 Page

Blocked pages designs are still popular today – maybe even more so! I love that the design has held up over the years. Simple blocked designs are a classic for a reason. Here’s my new 2016 page, inspired by the 2010 page:

Supplies: Page template (modified) from The Fat Pack 3 by Janet Phillips, TDD member exclusive My Life Online

To bring this page into 2016, I only had to make some minor adjustments. I changed the alignment of the design, centering the kraft mat on the page which is more in keeping with my current preferences. I lightened the background paper too. These days I like plain backgrounds, but the light gray stripes are very subtle. For the title, I chose a simple typed font rather than an alpha. Over the years, I have mostly moved away from alphas. Finally, I added bigger clusters this time, with more elements in them.

But the overall design is clearly based on the 2010 page – and I was even able to keep the kraft mat. I’m declaring this a successful lift!

Love Your Family {poster project}

I have a new hobby obsession. I love creating posters and other home decor projects. With all the amazing new fonts that are out there (along with their constant advertising on Facebook and other sites I visit), playing with words has become such an amazing creative outlet for me. How could it not be?

words + pretty things = happy me

For this poster, I used Sugary Fancy’s You Complete Me kit from the February 2016 Digi Files. It’s so full of amazing papers and elements. I knew I could whip something up to put on my bulletin board for Valentine’s Day.

I didn’t have a particular quote in mind but I knew I wanted something family related. A quick Google search turned up lots of options.

I chose one and got to work! It was quick and easy and I love being able to use my stash of digital supplies and fonts for more than just scrapping. I have hundreds of kits just waiting to be used in all sorts of ways!

I Got U Babe

I couldn’t love Digilicious Designs any more even if I tried! I remember when she first came to Sweet Shoppe and I saw her first kit. I was in awe! Such much fun! So much color! I Got U Babe, her kit in this month’s Digi Files, is a perfect example of why I get so giddy when I see her stuff. What’s not to love? This is one of those kits I can see myself using over and over again. I bet you will too!

Name

My name is Christine and I live in the Glasshouse Mountains (QLD, Australia) with my hubby and 2 young boys. I have been scrapbooking the traditional way (paper) since about 2002, although I’ve probably been doing it in one form or another all my life. I have been using Photoshop for years and made the leap into digital scrapbooking & designing in 2006. I still enjoy both forms of scrapbooking and experiment with the hybrid style occasionally.

I started with paper scrapbooking and always dabbled in various other crafts. I used photoshop frequently at work for creating marketing materials and stumbled across digital scrapbooking in 2006 just after having my first bub. I fell into designing fairly quickly and loved it from the first kit I created till now – who knows how many hundreds of kits later!

Pretty much everything – songs, kids, weather, radio/TV, holidays… the list is endless!

tools

Computer: My PC is getting on a bit now and the solid state C drive needs upgrading, but it still gets the job done! I have a custom built computer with 2 solid state hard drives (one specifically to run photoshop), 2 x 1TB storage drives, Windows 8.1 Pro, 16GB RAM and I use an Intuos4 tablet & pen (no mouse).

Program: Adobe Creative Cloud – Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom.
Occasionally Eye Candy and Filter Forge plugins, and Artrage.

Camera: Canon EOS 7D, Canon Powershot SX210, but mostly I use my Samsung Galaxy S5 for snapshots.

Anything Else: Wacom Intuos4, Epson Perfection V600 scanner

Stay organised! Keep your photos in your preferred ‘filing’ system from the get-go. Don’t let it get out of hand or it’s such a big job to catch up!

I had been doing project 365-type collections each year then had a break for a couple of years. I finally had the mojo to have another go at it, and so ‘This Is 2016’ was born! I’m really enjoying creating a fabulous new collection each month with matching planner inserts and templates.

Gratitude Journal {week six}

On Sundays this year at The Daily Digi, we are going to be sharing a FREE weekly gratitude journal spread. These pages are a place for you to record little memories you don’t want to forget, little reasons to be grateful. Each week their will be a gratefulness quote as well as a few photo spots.

You can use these FREE pages in a number of ways:

1) As digital scrapbooking templates. The download will always include .psd files for both 2-page 12×12 spreads as well as 2-page 8.5×11 spreads. You can add your own papers and elements and scrap ’till your heart’s content! (This is also a good option for those of you who get twitchy because I started the week with Friday. Since January 1 is a Friday, I like to start each week that way, but you may not! Feel free to adjust as needed!

2) As a digital journal. Keep the colors and text just as they are. Simply flatten the layers and add your notes of gratitude. Easy peasy!

3) As printed pages. Print out and write on them the good old-fashioned way. There is a .pdf file included for printing two letter-sized pages. Print your photos and attach!

If you have missed previous weeks, grab them HERE.

_____

If you have used the templates or print-outs, we’d LOVE to see them! Share a link in the comments or EMAIL ME . We just might feature your page!

Be sure to be back next week for your next FREE journal template!
