Birthday Kit Favs

Our family is smack dab in the middle of birthday season. Our first birthday of the year is January 30. We then take a five week break. Then, from March 6 – May 1, we have SEVEN birthdays! Yep, seven birthdays in eight weeks. That’s a lot of cake!

I love all the traditions we have and the memories we make. Although I am definitely and everyday moment kind of scrapper, I do love to create birthday pages. And that’s good, because by the time my kids are all out of the house, we will have celebrated 108 kid birthdays! Phew!

So with all that scrapping to do, I needed some inspiration. I went scouring around digiland and pulled some of my favorite birthday products. I hope these inspire you as much as they do me! All products are linked to their source.

My name is Alice and I live with my husband and our two super cute daughters who are a constant inspiration for me. Just a few random facts: I love nature walks, old movies and I am a hopeless chocolate lover. As a designer I have searched long and hard for my own unique style and I found that cute with a touch of whimsical is what represents me the best.

I love the impact of a composition on a dark background! A while ago I just happened to have one of my favorite kits opened along with one of our most recent nature photos and this layout came together almost by itself!

I have always had a creative side and loved to make beautiful things. What actually started it was a tablet bought by my husband that came with some designing programs that I use to this day. As I had some spare time back then (my oldest daughter was just a baby and she slept a good part of the day), I tried my hand at designing and I loved the process. I knew that I can get better and that is one thought that keeps me going to this day!

I find my inspiration in children’s books and my own daughters’ drawings. I believe childhood is such a wonderful period of time and I try to capture its spirit with every kit that I make.

tools

Computer: I work on a HP laptop. I have no idea of how much RAM or other “computer stuff” it has! I’m lucky that my husband takes care of all the technical stuff!

Program: Photoshop is my main program. I also use an older version of Corel Draw.

Camera: An Olympus Pen. Although I seem to use my phone camera more and more!

Anything Else: I have a Wacom Intuos tablet (the one I have already mentioned) that I totally love, as well as a Cannon scanner.

It’s a long time since I discovered this, but it still is my favorite tip: hover the mouse between two layers while pressing the “Alt” key to clip the top layer to the shape on bottom one. You can get some pretty amazing effects doing this!
