My name is Laura Banasiak and I’ve been selling my digital scrapbooking products at Scrap Orchard since 2010. I live about an hour from Chicago, Illinois with my boyfriend, my two sons, our bearded dragon, two guinea pigs, hermit crab and betta fish. When I’m not designing, I’m either volunteering my time with our schools’ PTO or coaching co-ed youth soccer. I also really love painting and messing around with random craft projects when I can. Our family is very involved with Cub Scouts, with my fifth grader entering Boy Scouts very soon! I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a lot of members of the digiscrap community over the years in Nevada, Chicago and Texas. I love the closeness this community shares and am so grateful to be a part of it!

Okay, so I’m aware that not everyone likes zombies or horror films and shows. My boyfriend’s birthday is the day before Halloween, and he is obsessed with anything horror. I’ve painted both The Walking Dead and Nightmare on Elm Street inspired art for him as gifts. For his most recent birthday, I came up with the idea to create portraits of everyone in our blended family…as zombies. We have seven 5×7 inch portraits hanging on the wall in our living room. There’s him, me, his three kids and then my two. We all think it’s pretty cool.

I started using Photoshop in 2006 to create Babycenter forum signatures for myself and my friends. As time went on, I decided that I’d try making my own digital scrapbook kits and graphics. I was in a handful of stores before finally making Scrap Orchard my home at the end of 2010.

I pride myself in using the majority of my products to scrapbook my own layouts. If I wouldn’t like it, I don’t make it. I often browse Pinterest looking for colors or theme ideas.

Computer: I work on a 13″ MacBook Pro with 8G of RAM and am running Yosemite OS X. I have an external monitor that I connect through the thunderbolt port but usually find it more comfortable to use the MacBook monitor.

Program: I use both Adobe Illustrator CS6 and Adobe Photoshop CS6.

Camera: I sometimes stick with my trusty old Nikon D90 but other times scrapbook photos from either my iPhone 5S or my boyfriend’s iPhone 6 Plus.

Anything Else: I currently use Wacom’s Bamboo Fun Pen And Touch 6×9 Tablet.

Recently, I’ve tried to play catch up in my scrapping. A lot of times, I will take pictures at an event or outing but not have the time to scrap them just yet. What I like to do is create a folder in my documents specifically for that layout or layouts. I’ll include the photos and then add the kit when I create it or purchase and download it. This way, when I’m ready to scrap, the files are all together.

As the mom of a child on the spectrum, I noticed that there weren’t many kits available that were theme specific. This kit really means a lot to me and I’ve gotten a lot of positive comments from other scrappers who relate to what we as parents go through to ensure our children’s success.

My most popular product is Law of the Pack, which is Cub Scout inspired. By the time this feature goes live, I will have released a brand new scouting inspired kit and even hope to create a collection of more specific add ons.
