Moving the Whole Design Around the Page

Moving the Whole Design Around the Page

When I have everything on a page and I think I am done, I like to select all of the layers and move the design around the page. Sometimes the design looks better aligned left or right, centred, or placed in the bottom or top third of the page. It’s such a simple thing to do and makes such a big impact that it’s worth the 30 seconds to try out a few different placements.

First, select all of the layers in the layers palette. Select the top layer and then, while holding down the SHIFT key, select the bottom layer. This will select all the layers in between the top and bottom layers as well.

Note: Don’t select the background or any layers that you want to keep in place (like the tape at the bottom of this page, for example).

Now use the Move tool to move all of the selected layers together and test out new placements. Here are a few of the placements that I tried for my page:

Top-right placement:

Bottom-left placement:

Centred-angle placement:

There’s no right or wrong placement design. For me, I decided I liked this simple centred placement the best:

This is such an easy and quick way to add a finishing touch to pages that I do it on nearly every page I make, almost without thinking about it.
