Hello Everyone! My name is Kami and I design under the name Ziggle Designs. I live in Corona, California with my beautiful little family. I have been a digital scrapbook designer for a little over 7 years and have been running Scrap Orchard with my sister for a little under 7 years!
I love reading, painting, drawing, and crocheting (and pretty much anything crafty)!
I’ve recently fallen head-over-heels in love with mixed media art. This is one of my favorite pieces. I created this using digital collage sheets and I posted a video tutorial of the process on my blog!
I started scrapbooking in 2001. I went with a friend to a scrapbooking party and I was immediately hooked. A year or so later, the same friend took me to a stamping party and my obsession grew. I love making pretty things!!!
Once I had my daughter in 2004, I found I didn’t have as much time to scrap and when I did find a little bit of time, I spent almost the entire time getting my supplies out and putting them away. I realized that if I could create my scrapbook pages on my computer that it would be so much easier and there would be a lot less “mess”. I found digital scrapbooking. I can’t even describe how I felt when I made my first layout, but I still remember it to this day. It was like “where have you been all my life”? That was pretty much all she wrote.
A few years ago, I started dabbling in mixed media as a non-scrapbooking creative outlet and I am finding myself drawn to that more and more and I’m starting to incorporate my mixed media art into my digital designs. I want to connect my two passions!
Right now, other artists inspire me. I am addicted to YouTube videos. I upgraded my phone to a 6+ just so that I would have more screen space to watch videos. I love watching other people create and I find myself itching to jump in and try a new technique or project when I watch them.
Computer: I have a custom built computer. It is an Intel Core i5-3570K CPU with 16 GB of RAM running Windows 7 64-bit.
For storage I have three internal drives and one external drive. I have a 170 GB SSD for booting up, a 250 GB SSD set as my scratch disc and a 3 TB SATA drive I use for storing my personal files. I use my 2 TB WD external drive to store all my work files.
I have two 23″ monitors connected to an AMD FirePro V4900 video card and this year Santa brought me a monitor mount for my desk. I love having the monitors off my desk!!
Program: I use Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC
Camera: These days, I mostly use my phone camera. But my DSLR camera is a Nikon 7000.
Anything Else: I have a Surface Pro 2 that I love! I can scrap and design on it. I also use a Wacom Intuos tablet with my PC when I am designing and an Epson Perfection 4490 Photo Scanner.
I also have a LaserJet Pro 200 color printer that prints beautifully!
Often times dimensional elements have a highlight and a shadow that helps give them depth. Whenever possible- particularly on flair, buttons, flowers, etc- I always turn or rotate my elements so the shadow side aligns with my drop shadow directions to help them appear more cohesive with the layout. I used 90 degrees when I design and scrap, so I always put the dark (shadowed) side down and the light (highlight) side up. If you are using 120 or -45, you can just rotate your element until the darker side is pointing in the same direction as your drop shadows!
Girlfriends Volume 1 Digital Stamps is my favorite product right now. I just love these girls. Most of them were drawn while I was sitting at my daughter’s piano lessons listening to her play. It’s a time of the week when I don’t have any distractions. I can’t work. I don’t check in on my phone. I just sit with myself and doodle. So these girls hold a special place in my heart.
My Let It Grow Bundle is one of my most popular products. This product was inspired by the movie The Lorax. I was watching it with my daughter one day and I started doodling some flowers in my sketchbook. I turned the flowers into the focal point of the kit, added some more doodled elements and ended up with Let It Grow.
