Sweet Slumber

WELCOME BACK to Emily from mle Card (such a fun play on her name)! Emily is one of the designers that I’ve been fortunate to meet in real life. I adore Emily’s little had doodles and drawings that she includes in each collection. Each is unique and each is her own. Many of her papers include her own artwork as well. She is a super talented artist and it’s so fun to have her joining us again! Let’s take a closer look at “Sweet Slumber” that is included in
The Digi Files this month:

This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of

My name is Emily (mle), married for 13 years with 3 children(7, 3 & 1). We also have a dog named Scout and a cat named pikaboo.

This page is one that I made recently of my second child Benjamin(our middle child) from photos I took of him in 2011. I am very behind on my scrapbooking and it was nice to sit and reflect on how much our life has changed since then. As I looked through the photos again I was reminded of how my now 3 year old probably would not be here had I not miscarried 3 times in 2009. I needed to scrap these photos and think about how grateful I am. It helps me to appreciate a little more the frustrating moments there are in raising a 3 year old! That is pretty much what I love so much about scrapbooking. It makes me pause and reflect on the stage of life we are in right now, think back to the good and bad times and look forward to what is to come.

I first started scrapbooking in 2008 when my daughter was about 8 months old. I had all these digital pictures and I wanted to do something with them. So I discovered digital scrapbooking in an ivillage forum and I was pretty much hooked from there on out. 2009 was a difficult year for me emotionally. And I think I was looking for something to consume my mind and give me another thing to focus on. So I started to think about designing. I was a guest designer for Krystal Hartley and we chatted back and forth about my watercolor work. She really encouraged me to go for it and basically helped me find my first gig.

My children definitely inspire me to create. But also clothing and fabric play a major role in my inspiration.

Computer: I do all my work on my laptop. Its a Samsung 1.5TB split hard drive with 16 GB of ram.

Program: Photoshop and Illustrator cs6.

Camera: Nikon D7000 & my Samsung s4

Anything Else: none

I love to journal on my pages because I know if I do not journal I will totally forget what happened. Lately I have been taking more pictures with my phone and uploading them to instagram. Its a great place to sort of keep track of the details. The photo and the written memory are together in one place. So when I do finally get around to scrapping the pictures(probably several years from now) the freshly written memory is right with the picture.

This kit came to be because I had so many pictures of every one of my kids on the same jungle themed playmat. I chose the colors from that mat. This kit was probably one of the most fun ones to create. I just love painting animals and very themed kits seem to be most cohesive for me.

My daughter loves fairies and anything fantasy related. She had been begging me to make a fairy kit and so I finally put one together. I chose the color theme to be a little bit fall themed because that is around the time I released it. I think it resonated with a lot of people because honestly who doesn’t love fairies!
