Learn It Chalk It Up

WELCOME BACK to Wendyzine!! I have often asked Wendy to create custom actions for me to help make my digi life more simple. She is truly talented at creating actions, styles, and so much more. Wendy has been doing the video tutorials in our Playbooks for a very long time and it’s so fun to be able to share her newest product line that is very similar to what she does in the Playbooks. It was fun to visit with Wendy about all of her products, how she evolved to create the products she does, and some other fun automation tools. You can listen below (on the site),

Let’s take a closer look at “LEARN IT: Chalk It Up and SHAPES: Chalk” that is included in

I’m a part-time graphic designer, part-time digi-designer, part-time customer service rep, part-time digiscrapper and full-time mom and wife! It’s a busy life, but I love digital scrapbooking and am honored to be part of this hobby!

For my latest photobooks, I was over the page limit for AdoramaPix, so I decided to pull our Florida vacation out of the annual book and give it a book of it’s own. This is the front cover of the book. We hit a lot of attractions on this trip, so this template allowed me to include an iconic snapshot of each stop on the cover.

I attempted several different forms of scrapbooking over my early years. In college, I used the tradtional peel-and-stick “magnetic” albums to collect my photos and ephemera. In the 90s, I tried one of those computer scrapbooking software programs that used cheesy clipart and neon backgrounds. It was proprietary, though, so when we moved our home computer from PC to Mac, I lost access to those pages. When my first child was born, I received a paper scrapbooking set as a shower gift. I tried my best to do the album, but it was terrible. And, in one year, I made exactly 3 pages. My sister finally finished it up for me when she came to help out after the birth of my second child. I would love to go back and redo that album digitally as it’s pretty bad!

Soon after the birth of my second child, I stumbled across a layout online that led me to The Shabby Princess. I was floored. Since I already knew Photoshop from my graphic design career, digiscrapping was a natural fit for me. I’ve been digiscrapping ever since.

In 2007, I threw my hat in the ring and gave designing a try. I designed kits for about a year before I found my niche in creating actions, templates and tools to help scrappers and designers make the most of their scrapping and designing time. Then, in 2012 I launched my Learn It series of digital scrapbooking classes at Scrapbookgraphics’ Learning Loft. These classes help teach a topic or technique in Photoshop from a digiscrapper’s point of view.

I’m thankful every day to work in this industry alongside other amazing and talented scrappers and designers. It’s a joy to come to work via the internet every day.

I am all about saving time. If I can automate something and shave a few minutes off my workflow, I’ll find a way to do it. And, I love a good challenge. Even better, I love customer suggestions! I get a lot of satisfaction out of creating actions that make scrapping and designing easier.

Computer: MacBook Pro laptop, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB Ram, 500GB Solid State Drive, Retina Screen

Program: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Lightroom) and Elements 12. Other fav Mac apps…FontExplorer X Pro, PostHaste, CleanMyMac2, Screenflow.

Camera: Canon T1i

Anything Else: I inherited an Intuos 5 from my Mom and just got it hooked up last week. It’s pretty slick! I also have a Seagate Slim 500GB travel drive I use for my scrap supplies since my solid state drive is on the small side.

After 20+ years, I still learn new things in Photoshop. My latest trick… hold down the ALT or OPT key while clicking and dragging a layer on the layers panel to get a duplicate copy. Love that trick!

Not many people realize how easy and FAST it can be to create a collage foundation for a page using Lightroom. Now that my 2012 albums are done, I’m hoping to cruise through the 2013 pictures using these Lightroom templates before I forget 2013 entirely!

This action was a Steph request. And, ironically, goes right along with my class contribution for this month’s Digi Files. In honor of the coincidence, I’m putting this action set on sale for 50% off this week only.
