I am thrilled to be welcoming back to The Digi Files, Kristin CB! I have many layouts that were scrapped using Kristin’s products. I love her beautiful papers with everything from simple to complex patterns. I adore Kristin’s word art and sentiments that help communicate the feel and message of the kits she creates. I LOVE the colors she selects to create with and her contribution this month is no exception with the fall colors and the addition of the bold teal. I Let’s take a closer look at “Sweater Weather ” that is included in The Digi Files this month:
This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! Hi There! I am Kristin Cronin-Barrow and am a digital designer at the sweet shoppe. I go by KristinCB Designs for my design brand but most people refer to me as “kcb”.
I live in Southeastern British Columbia in a tiny town not far from the Montana border. I just recently celebrated my 12th wedding anniversary and we have 2 kids, Lily & Lucas. As a family we love to just go on day trips and we live a pretty simple life. I am a small town girl and couldn’t imagine moving back to a city!
I don’t have as much time to scrapbook as I like but I have been trying to force myself to make the effort when I finish my kits. I especially like to show that often even though the kits I make may seem “girly” you don’t need to shy away from using them for boy pages! Especially flowers! Boys like flowers too 🙂
I started designing products back in 2004. I found digital scrapbooking when my daughter was 3 months old. At that time there really was only one main digital scrapbook site and stores hadn’t come about yet. When the site I was a design team member decided to open up a real store I decided to jump in and see about selling designs. I first learned photoshop in 1998 while I was in college studying visual arts and then I got a job at a printing shop doing pre-press. When I was home on maternity leave and discovered digital scrapbooking I was so excited because I had been wanting to start scrapbooking but really didn’t want the mess or cost associated with it. So it was the best of both worlds since I already had knowledge with photoshop. Anyways I sold at a few stores and eventually found my design home at SSD in 2007. I haven’t looked back since!
I am usually inspired by a theme or quote and go from there. Usually the longest part for me is deciding on a color scheme. I am a bit obsessed with making and collecting color schemes so I think the sheer amount that I have to choose from makes this process harder than it needs to be.
Computer: I create on an imac. I recently upgraded this last year and am happy to have a brand new and fast computer! I have 16gb of ram and the smaller size (I think 21″) monitor. Those big imacs are just too big for me!
Program: I use the Adobe CS3 suite, haven’t upgraded yet and not sure I will for awhile with the new cloud system.
Camera: I have a nikon D70 and I just scored a used Canon G12 for a great price so am excited to have that to carry around with me instead of my big D70 all the time.
Anything Else: I use a tablet occasionally, a wacom bamboo.
My tip would be to just not worry about what others are doing and create what makes you happy. More and more I am seeing that people are scrapping and not being happy with what they are creating or they are feeling that they are not good enough. There is no such thing as good enough when it comes to scrapbooking in my opinion. Getting your stories and photos down for future generations to look through is priceless.
Picking a favourite product is always tough! It really depends on what mood I am in at the time, one time I will love a kit and the next day I could look at it and not really feel the love so much.
My last Christmas collection though was pretty special. I was so excited about the direction I went with it and really poured my heart into it. I spent a lot of time planning and working on this so it really was a labor of love. I couldn’t pick just one kit so I’m showing the collection
Here is a little unknown fact about me. I don’t like looking at the sales of my kits. I really try hard to just ignore how many times a kit has sold or which is most popular because I don’t want it to ruin how I feel about a kit. It is almost like checking your weight, I try not to do that either because it can either make or break a day for me!
From the last time I looked I think Bake me a Cake is my most popular. I started like I do with most kits, decided on a theme and name and then picked the colors. I really enjoy doing theme kits like this because it is fun to come up with and create unique elements.
