Quirky Twerp: Sweet Memories

I’m so happy to be welcoming back Quirky Twerp to The Digi Files this month! Donna has the amazing ability to create a wide variety of styles of digital scrapbook supplies and do it very well. From shabby and vintage to bold and whimsical and everything in-between. I’ve always found her designs inspiring and easy to create with. Our team scrapped some fun layouts with her contribution this month so, let’s take a closer look at “Sweet Memories” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! All of that, including access to exclusive collaborations every four months you are a member, for only $7.50 total per month! Here are some layouts created using Quirky Twerp’s contribution:

My name is Donna Wells, I live in southwest Missouri with my two dogs and two cats and I am a lover of all things vintage.

I tell people that I’m artistic but I’m not crafty, and I don’t like making a mess, so I prefer to create things on my computer. Since I don’t have children or a husband, I don’t really feel drawn to doing typical scrapbook layouts about my life, but decorating my house is one of my passions, and I’m also very nostalgic. Put those things together and that explains why I felt compelled to create a piece of artwork using my childhood dolls, Malibu Ken and Malibu P.J. This is my kind of scrapbooking!

I started designing for the paper scrapbook industry back around 2000 when a company contacted me to do some sticker illustrations for them. By word-of-mouth I obtained more clients and became so busy I had to quit my job and start a graphic design business in my home. In 2009, one of my clients asked me to prepare some of their files for a digital site and that’s when I discovered a world I hadn’t been aware of…digital scrapbooking! I realized that if I had my own shop I could design my own products, rather than design for others. I have always enjoyed designing for my clients and wouldn’t trade that for anything, but having my own shop is such a wonderful creative outlet that I’m happy to have that opportunity, as well.

I’m inspired by things I see in magazines and catalogs or by bits of ephemera I pick up at flea markets. I’ve also been inspired by Pinterest, which isn’t a huge surprise!

Computer: I have a MacPro Tower with 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor and 6 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM memory and a 22″ ViewSonic monitor.
Program: I work with Photoshop and Illustrator and sometimes InDesign, but that’s mostly used when I’m doing work for my clients. I’m still hoping to upgrade to the latest version of CS, but until then I’m satisfied with CS4. I have to be!
Camera: My camera is a Sony Mavica that I’ve had for about seven years. It works for what I need. I’m not a huge photography buff so I just leave it on all the automatic settings.

Anything Else: I use a WACOM Intuos 5 Touch that I had to buy recently because I made the mistake of leaving a glass of water by my computer and my curious cat tipped it over on my older WACOM tablet. I tried to save it, but the water had had plenty of time to work it over and it was a goner!

I also have a large format Epson scanner which I LOVE. Epson makes the best scanners and printers, in my opinion. They’re so user-friendly.
I don’t really have a tip or trick, but I would like to just throw out that “back up your stuff” reminder! I think that needs to be said every once in awhile.

I love the muted colors of Happy Life and the whimsical feel of the elements. I enjoyed creating that kit along with all the coordinating products…neutral patterned papers, word art, solid papers and journaling cards. And I’m a sucker for patterns so I especially enjoyed making all the patterned papers.

My Confectionerie Paper Pack went WILD after the awesomely talented, Heather Greenwood, created a wreath of hearts for a Hybrid Chick post. It was posted and reposted on Pinterest and my sales when crazy on that one. I like the bright colors and the patterns, of course.
