Weeds & Wildflowers: Life in a Box

I’ve followed Gina Marie from Weeds & Wildflowers Design since her entry into digital design. Gina started creating systems for scrappers to document their lives early on in her career. They have all been based on her needs as a scrapper and they have been fast and easy for digital scrappers to use, all while look great too.  I first purchased one of her Life365 kits in 2008 and loved using it. I have bought many of her layered “quick pages” over the years as well as her systems have evolved. I love her designs: whimsical, fun, yet sophisticated as well. Just all around good design. Gina’s contribution to The Digi Files this month is part of her newest system, (actually just refined more than it is new), that she launched at the beginning of this year.  It IS simple and it is fast! Let’s take a closer look at “Life in a Box Simple Squares” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

Gina Marie’s contribution also includes these bonus downloads from current collections in Gina Marie’s store to help you use her “Life in a Box” system (read more about the system):

ALL of this is just ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF, Kindle, Nook, and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! All of that, including access to exclusive collaborations every four months you are a member, for only $7.50 total per month! Here are some layouts created using Gina Huff from Weeds & Wildflowers Design’ contribution:

My name is Gina Marie Huff of Weeds & Wildflowers Design. I have been designing for over 6 years now and love the creative outlet it brings. I am most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, I love rainy days, eating healthy, and reading good books. I love sappy, romantic movies, I can usually be found doodling on something, and I twist my hair when I am concentrating. I don’t have a sweet tooth, and would live off of cereal if I could.

I live in the beautiful mountains of rural Utah with my husband Greg, and we have four wonderful boys. We also have two horses and two dogs. Life is crazy but we love every minute of it.

Ever since I have started digital designing and scrapping I have come to find more appreciation in the little things. I love finding the moments in life that make me happy and then recording them for the years to come.

This year for my scrapping I wanted to focus on easy and simple, and it doesn’t get more simple than squares. So I created the system called “Life in a BOX – Scrapping your Daily Life Inside the Box.”

I wanted a way to scrap as many or as few photos as I wanted during the week. Some days you have more than one photo you would like to scrap, and some days you don’t have any. This takes all the pressure off HAVING to take a photo a day, and yet leaves the versatility to scrap any or all of your daily photos each week. Also, the squares are great for Instagram photos 🙂

With this system, adding quotes and embellishments, marking dates, and recording journaling is super easy using Simple Squares. They are all-done-for-you boxes that fit right into the squares on the templates. They include embellishments, journaling options, paper blocks, date & Month labels, quotes, etc. All you have to do is drag and drop them into the blank squares on your template and your layout is finished!

So, take the basic templates of squares, add photos, add a couple Simple Squares, journal, and you are done! Super easy and simple, but there is still room for fun, versatility and creativity. Here’s one of Gina’s pages. Click the image to see more of Gina’s pages.

I started paper scrapping over 12 years ago after the birth of my first son, and was of course addicted immediately. Many years and many albums later I discovered digital and started playing around in Photoshop with shapes, brushes and textures and found that I loved creating things with pixels as well. Now after 6 years of digital designing I find that I still love creating things that make it easier to scrap my daily photos, and I love sharing them with others as well.

I would have to say my photos are my greatest inspiration for my designs. I just look at the events and good times from my weeks or months and I design what I would like to scrap with those photos.

Computer: I use an iMac OS X with 8GB of RAM, as well as a MacBook laptop when I am away of my office.
Program: I use Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator.
Camera: I have a Nikon D90, and use mainly a 50mm f/1.8 lens.
Anything Else: I love using my Bamboo tablet and pen to doodle and draw designs.

I guess I would just say my favorite thing is to just try to capture life as it is, focus on the little things, and make sure I journal my thoughts and feelings from those little things. I enjoy looking back and seeing the things that might have been mundane or forgotten and I am able to appreciate how good life really is, and how grateful I am for the simple things in life. We shouldn’t wait for a super amazing photo or big event to take time to record the things in life that matter to us.

It is hard to pick my favorite, as usually it is the one I am currently working on, but something I love creating is my Tiny 10’s which are smaller packs of elements, wordart and papers. I like doing these smaller packs because I can do lots of different topics and color schemes and sell them for an affordable price. It helps me to be creative and keep things fresh as well.

One of my most popular products is the Sweet & Simple line. It is a daily photo collection where the layouts are all done for you, making it really easy to scrap your 365 photos. I also made element kits every month to supplement it and the whole collection has been one of my biggest selling products for the last couple of years.
