We love all forms of digital scrapbooking here at The Daily Digi and we’ve been happily noticing the increased interest in digital art journaling over the past few years. We have several past posts where we have celebrated the beautiful creations that digital scrapbook artists have put together:
- Let your inner artist come out and play
- Visual journaling for the digital scrapbooking non-artist
- Therapy through digital – putting it all out there for you
- Digital works of art
- This is digital scrapbooking
- Digi Show podcast about art journaling – Monkey proof with Tangie Baxter.
While digital art journaling has been around for awhile now, it seems that in the last 6 months there has been an explosion of related products, challenges, and resources for this type of digi scrapping. I thought it would be the perfect time to put together a BIG resource post to help you find all of the amazing art journaling inspiration out there in digiland.
Digital Stores and Communities
This year seems to be the year of digital art journaling! I’ve noticed many stores and forums now have categories and sections dedicated to art journalers who use both hybrid and full digital techniques for their pieces.
- The Lilypad has a forum devoted to art journaling, including Intro to Art Journaling, Art Journaling FAQs, Inspiration and a regular series of prompts hosted by designer and art journaler, Michelle Godin. TLP has also has Art Journaling Gallery, where artists are welcome to share their work.
- Scrap Orchard has a category in the shop just for digital art journaling and mixed media.
- Sweet Shoppe Designs has a dedicated area in their store for digital art journaling items.
- Scrapbook Graphics features an art journal/collage section in their store. There is also an area in their forum for art journaling exploration and you can also get a free ezine from Studio Tangie in this thread.
- Oscraps has an altered art/collage category in their shop that is filled with products perfect for art journaling. The Anna Aspnes team also hosts challenges in the forum for art journaling.
- Scrap Matters has a section of their shop dedicated to art journaling.
- Shine from Within is a new project from Captivated Visions, Studio Tangie, and Studio Rosey Posey, all about digital art journaling. There is also a free lookbook on the site to download.
- Digital art journaling layouts are always welcome in our Flickr group!
Digital Designers
Many digital designers create products that can be used in art journaling (there are no rules to what you can or cannot use!), but there are a few that really stand out in this category because it is a major emphasis for them.
- Studio Tangie has designs that are so artistic and filled with symbolic details. She is a real leader in the digital art journaling movement and has her own Art Journaling Caravan available on her blog.
- CD Muckosky is a wonderfully talented artist using markers, paints, watercolors, and other real art supplies to create her work and then digitize it so we can use it on our own digital layouts!
- Anna Aspnes is an amazing and inspiring artist who was playing with art journaling techniques before the rest of us even knew the term. Her ArtPlay Palettes are especially well suited to art journaling.
- Captivated Visions has an ongoing Free Blog Series & Workshop called The Art of Artful Digi Scrapping. She discusses Artful Digi Scrapbooking which encompasses Mixed Media, Art Journaling and also Digital Collage. She hosts an art journaling gallery on her site (products must contain 80% Captivated Visions). Her store is also packed with mixed media kits and art journaling supplies!
- Michelle Godin’s shop is a treasure trove for the Art Journaler and she hosts the art journaling challenges at The Lily Pad.
- Studio Rosey Posey loves to focus on digital art journaling and collage techniques. She is filled with inspiration in these areas!
- T for Me has turned to a new focus of products that are very artsy and perfect for art journaling creations.
- Val C. designs many art journaling backgrounds and also a lot of word/quote art perfect for this type of scrapping.
Digital Products
Ok, I hope you are ready for some MAJOR ENABLING because I have found oodles of art journaling designs that I know you will love! Each image is linked to the store where you can find the product.
This is the set of papers I used for the title graphic. All I had to do was add text!
And Tracie Stroud has a special bonus for TDD readers! Art and Soul Bundle is packed to the brim with art journaly goodness. TDD readers can save an extra $2 on the purchase of Art and Soul Bundle through February 28 when they use coupon code TDD-artNsoul at checkout.
I’m ready to play, how about you?
PS. Congratulations to this week’s reader, Jeri, who has won $10 to The Digi Chick. Thanks for commenting!
