Digi Scrapping with PDF Printables

I love finding pdf printables to download and it’s so cool that many of them are even free! Did you know that you can use pdf files for digi scrapping in Photoshop?

This darling printable is a free download from Skip to my Lou.

Most people will download the file and print out the pdf onto white cardstock paper. That’s a great way to use them, but digi scrappers have the advantage of taking it to the next level.

Just open the pdf file using your Photoshop program. I’m using PSE 10 and it prompts me to accept the pdf import settings. You can read more about these options on the Adobe help site page for opening a pdf.

import pdf

Once the image is imported, the background becomes transparent and it’s just like using digi scrapping embellishments.

Then I use the marquee tool in my sidebar to select the piece of wordart I want to use from the pdf.

Once I have made my selection, I choose to put that piece on a new layer by right clicking and choosing “layer via copy.” There are other ways to do this, but this is just the one I’m used to. You can then choose to save that layer as it’s own png file so you can use it again, or just keep a TIF or PSD that has all the pieces as their own layers. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with keeping the pdf only. It only takes a quick minute to extract the piece you want from it.

Now I can drag this layer onto my layout canvas and create something fun with it!
