There are some great things happening here at THE DAILY DIGI!  We have been up and running for almost four months and we are learning things every day!  We are learning what works, what doesn’t work, and what we need to do differently.  There are a LOT of cool changes in the works.  Some are small things that will make life easier.  Some are big things that we think you will really love.  And some things are just out of necessity.  But don’t worry…the vision of the site is still the same: to bring you the best information and inspiration each and every day!

In order to help us help you, we have put together a short survey.  By taking 10 minutes to fill out the survey, you will provide us with valuable, specific feedback.  We want to make the right changes at the right time to make this site the best it can be! We would love you to participate and tell us what you think! Don’t worry — all responses are confidential!

Once you have completed the survey, you will be directed to a free download for this template…just my way of saying THANK YOU!

A Little Gift

Happy (almost) Easter to you! I hope everyone is enjoying this time of year…the hints of spring, lots of egg coloring, crafts, Easter chocolate, beautiful church services, and time with family. We just got back from a week long vacation and excited to celebrate as a family tomorrow.

eastereggmess_450(click on image for full credits)

After the festivities are over, don’t forget to preserve the memories! Although “every day” moments are easier for me to scrap than holiday or big events, I don’t want to look through my albums and see no evidence of the big days. As an Easter gift to you, I made this 24 x 12 template to help you (and me!) at least get started ! Enjoy

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT — Kasia Designs

Spot Lit Wall

Thrilled doesn’t even begin to explain how I feel about having Kasia Designs with us here at THE DAILY DIGI this month.  There is just something about her whimsical creations and fun colors that makes me smile.  I just love how sweet and youthful they are…just packed with energy and happiness!  If you want an example, just look at what she created for THE DIGI FILES 3!

tdf3

Isn’t it just SO pretty?  So light and airy!  I LOVE it!  You can get it HERE along with a ton of other great stuff…but hurry, you only have a few more days!

Here is a page I did with it. I am adding it to my inspiration collection.  I am realizing that I don’t quite have enough room for all the the quotes and verses I have started scrapping…I think I may have to start an album just for these!

My name is Kasia Sikorska,I am originally from Poland but at the moment I am living in the west of Ireland with my beautiful husband whom I met here and our gorgeous 2 year old son .I just turned 28 on April 4th but I must tell you that I still feel like in my early 20’s :).  I love spending time with my family and especially love playing with my son and being creative with him 🙂 I am also addicted to coffee, Photoshop, photo actions and my dslr cameras – Olympus E510 and Canon rebel xti and would love to get Sony A900 too 🙂

question1

When I was scrapping there were times that I wanted to use something in my page but could not find it anywhere in the digiland and thought to myself that it would be so cool to be able to make it myself, so when I was given a chance to design over at WST I went for it 🙂 It has been an enjoyable process so far and I love that it helps me to evolve and be creative and I love every minute of it 🙂

question2

Well I started last year in March so it’s been a little over a year now 🙂

question3

I’d say I am both although recently I haven’t been able to scrap as much as I used to and I truly miss it…

question4

It just depends – if I really have an idea for a product or a kit and feel really inspired I can finish it off within just few hours and sometimes it can take few days too.

question5

I’d say that the most fav would be my latest kit Twilight

but I also adore The Artsy Town kit

and Once in a Blue Moon kit

I guess that every new kit I release sells pretty well but I must say that Whimsical Poetry Kit topped the charts

Spring Is In The Air

Spring is definitely in the air in the hybrid galleries! I wanted to share a few of my favorite Spring and Easter hybrid projects I have seen around digi world. Please click on the images for full credits and details.

First up, is this CUTE carrot that I have always wanted to learn how to make, so I will probably be picking this template up!

vg_carrotwm2

I love planting our garden with my kids and I thought these would be so much fun to make for them to tag everything after they planted. Andrea M. posted a comment this morning letting me know that these are posted as a freebie on Pamela Donis’ blog here (THANKS so much for sharing Andrea!)

young_gardener_preview

I thought these little goodie bags were super cute and would be pretty easy to make as well (gotta love easy)!

simies_velikonoce08

How about these CUTE etched bottles with a font and digital brushes?

I fell in love with the scalloped border on this basket:

Of course, don’t forget about Janet’s cute basket craft from yesterday (scroll down for a free template 🙂 )

Have fun hybridizing your digital goodies!!

A Simple Easter Craft

basket1

I know with 99% accuracy that if I ask my oldest daughter what she would like to do, she will say “a craft.” Because of that, I am always on the lookout for fun and easy things that we can do together. I am also usually looking for fast things, because while she LOVES to do crafts, her attention span is very short. We need crafts that are quick and easy. And they score bonus points for me if I can use my digi products!

I was looking through one of my craft books and came across one for making a simple Easter basket. I remembered seeing something like this in the past in the digi community and was bummed I couldn’t find it again. After some tweaking and personalizing, I thought it would be a fun craft to share with you! The whole thing took me less than 15 minutes…can’t beat that!

All you need for this craft is some cardstock, scissors, glue, something to put inside your basket (I used yarn but you could use Easter grass, real grass, confetti, pieces of paper, cotton balls, etc), and a great digi kit.

***The template for this project is no longer available***

I decided to use one of my most favorite sprintime kits, the PROMISE COLLECTION by Shabby Princess which is FREE at her site.

sp_promise_preview_550

When adding paper and elements to the template, be sure to be aware of which direction that area will be facing once the basket is put together. For mine, I had to rotate the border as I added it to each side so that all the grass and flowers would be going the right direction when it was assembled. I also added a few flowers and other elements to my page before printing so that I could cut them out and add to the basket later. This is what my page looked like before I printed:

tdd_eastertreatbasket_example_web

First I printed one side of my cardstock in the solid yellow color. This would be the inside color for the basket, as well as the tops of the scallop edges once they are folded out. I then ran the same piece of cardstock through the printer, printing out the final design on the opposite side.

baket3

Once printed, I cut out the basket shape and the handle. I then folded all the inside lines, glued the lip pieces to the inside of the basket, and then glued the handle on. I added flowers and a butterfly to the outside and called it done. Such a sweet little craft — perfect for giving a gift teachers, neighbors, and friends. Throw in a few chocolate eggs and no one will be able to resist!

If you love all things homemade, warm and comfortable, and totally unique then today’s post is for you! We are so excited to have Lynne-Marie Favreau with us this month at THE DAILY DIGI. I discovered her designs not long ago and was immediately in love with the worn style, the hand-drawn whimsical elements, and her free-spirited style. Lynne-Marie Favreau lives with her husband André and three darling boys, Caleb, Nathaniel and Jude in the Montreal region of Quebec, Canada. She and her husband are also actively involved in music. They recently completed a French album with worship leader Paul Baloche (www.leadworship.com). Homeschooling her oldest son also takes up a big chunk of her time and energy, but she enjoys designing for Catscrap and Zig Zag Scrap whenever she can!

STORES: Catscrap and Zig Zag Scrap

BLOG: Lynne-Marie Designs

question1

I used to be an elementary school teacher. When I had my babies I just couldn’t bear the thought of leaving them to someone else while I took care of other people’s kids. I decided to redirect my career towards graphic art and took on contracts from home. I opened Photoshop for the first time in November of 2007 and took an online course of study. In January I discovered digital scrapbooking and figured that it was something I could do!! I knew NOTHING of the industry! Figuring that I didn’t have the necessary contacts to “get into” an established store, I opened my own (Zig Zag Scrap). One week before our opening day, Catscrap (my FAVORITE store) had a designer call. I applied, and to my surprise, was accepted!!!

question2

I created and sold my very first kit (Bubble Bliss) in June of 2008

question3

Now that I design, I have very little time to scrap, but I get so much satisfaction from creating my kits that I don’t miss it too much. However, I am really behind in my memory-keeping!! One of these days I’ll try to catch up… (ahem, ahem, ahem…. yeah, right!)

question4

When we first opened Zig Zag Scrap (myself and Annick Philibert), I was working at least 60 hours per week! I had countless sleepless nights. We were learning about the business, setting up our store and designing all at once! To top things off I decided to start homeschooling in September and we had our release of the Paul Baloche album, so I was really doing too much! Recently I took a long hard look at my life and reorganized my priorities. I’ve vowed to spend no more than 15 hours per week on my design related work. This means that I will not be one of the more prolific designers out there, but that’s fine with me. I have so many other goals to acheive! I am also working on my songwriting and plan to release an album of my own stuff this year.

question5

My all-time fovorite product so far is my Mixed Media collection. It took me two months to get it done, but I keep going back to it whenever I have a little time to scrap. This is truly the style that suits me best. My best work is done on real paper with messy paints and markers. Although I admire designs with a more graphic look and I’ve tried to do some myself, I just keep coming back to the hand-made look. If I can slip a second kit in here I have to say I also loved working on my Seuss inspired kit “Imagine”.

Thank you, Lynne-Marie, for being with us here at THE DAILY DIGI this month! I know I have loved seeing your designs and getting to know you a bit better. Your style is one of a kind and I am sure you will go far!

She also has this note for all of you:

Several of you have asked me to include templates with my overlays as not all programs work without them. I’ve put together a file with templates for Tattered 1 and 2 that you can download for free from my BLOG. Of course, they are of no use if you don’t have the overlays themselves. All future sales of these products will include the templates.

Songbird Avenue

untitled-2

Over the past two years I have had the amazing opportunity to be a part of a really great site — SONGBIRD AVENUE. Sonbird Ave was started by Jan Crowley and Meredith Fenwick. It was their dream to have a site that would allow the scrapping community to give back. Each month they collaborate with a great designers, design a kit, sell it, and then donate all of the proceeds to a charity of the guest designers choice. It is truly an amazing thing. In the past two years the site has dontated over $27,000 to charities.

This month they have teamed up with Ali Edwards to great this great kit, with proceeds going to Autism Speaks.

apr09-songbird-preview1

If I have learned anything over the last few months of running my own website it is that owning as website is A LOT of work and it is EXPENSIVE. There is so much “behind the scenes” time and money that goes into running a site that most people don’t realize. Running a charity site adds on the enormous responsibility of registering as a charitable organization, sending donations, providing proof of donation, and so on. So far, the site has paid for all of this out of pocket. That means, of that $27,000 collected from the sale of kits, NONE of it has gone towards paying for the site.

In order to help cover some of the costs involved with the site, Songbird Avenue has decided to offer up ALL PREVIOUS kits from the past two years. The contributing designers have generously (and wholeheartedly) agreed to put these kits back up for sale with they money going directly towards the site. The hope is that the sale of these kits will fund the site appropriately so that Songbird Avenue can continue to promote great charities and allow the scrapping community a way to give back.

Let me just say….ALL of the kids are incredible. The pages I have made from these kits over the past two years are some of my favorites. The templates I created for each of the kits are also some of my favorite. Check out just a few of the amazing kits you can get (all images are linked).
