I had no idea that Viva Artistry was a design duo consisting of Vivienne and Vanessa until I invited them to contribute to The Digi Files. I love their quirky unique designs that come together and create beautiful collections! Their designs are super fun and inspiring too! Vivienne: Loved the simple but lush look of this layout. I like asymetrical layouts and the white on white colors and it was awesome to scrap a happy memory from 25 years ago. Plus, I only have one copy of the photograph so it was nice to scan it just in case.

Vanessa: Because I put into words the feelings that I had been keeping to myself for a while and it felt good to do so. This was done for the DigiDares.

Vanessa was a digital scrapbooker first, having also been a graphic artist in real life.
Vivienne was a paper scrapbooker first and switched to digital in 2007.
Both of us were on a CT and we decided to work together on some trial kits. That was in 2008.

Art, we love looking at different types of work, medium, textures and materials.
Vanessa: I’m also very inspired by feelings, I like that our kits often have an emotion associated to them.
Vivienne: I love paper scraps in real life because of traditional scrapbooking. So a lot of what I make is a reflection of that.

Computer:
Vanessa: I work on a MacBook Pro, 17″ screen, I run Mac OS X 10.5.8 on it. 4GB RAM.
Vivienne: toshiba satellite laptop, 64 bit, 4 GB RAM, running windows 7, 2 internal drives (230 GB each), 2 EHD (500 GB each), 17″ screen
Program:
Vanessa: PSCS3, illustrator CS3, Alienskins plug ins
Vivienne: PSCS3, Inkscape, ArtRage
Camera:
Vanessa: Canon PowerShot SX219 (point and shoot)
Vivienne: Sony Cybershot (point and shoot), hoping for a Nikon DSLR for Christmas!
Anything Else:
Vivienne: Wacom Bamboo Pen tablet
Canon Cano-Scan 5000F scanner (but it doesn’t work with Win 7 so I am looking for a driver for it, otherwise, I have to use my old WinXP desktop with it)

Vanessa: I always create similar sized elements on the same page, that gives me a good idea on proportions and keep my number of files to a minimum.
Vivienne: I like making elements that are reflective of things in a traditional scrapbook. I also put the elements all together on a page to see if it works.

We love Misfit because it represents a lot of how we see ourselves as designers. We don’t fit into any one specific category, our work is a bit artistic, a bit altered, a bit quirky, a bit vintage, but you couldn’t classify it as any one of those exactly. It also speaks a lot of our creative team, being that we love those girls, we wanted to build a kit that represented them and I think Misfit did the trick. The colors were actually inspired by a grocery bag Vanessa had… it had lots of vintage black and white drawings with bright colors as highlights.

We’re not sure why it’s popular. Maybe because a lot of digi scrappers are originally paper scrappers and want to replicate their scrapbooks. Possibly that there are not many real journals or books in digital format and our papers look pretty grungy plus we add in some cool elements to go with it. It was because Vivienne was looking for some digital books to look like her real scrapbooks.

I have been a long time fan of Viva Artistry and I LOOOOOVE your work!
I am a fontaholic. I was *just* getting over it until I saw the October Storm layout. I clicked on the link but…no font info.
Any chance you can tell me what that font is?
I have got to have it. Got to.
Then, I’ll stop.
Thanks!
