(Then you don't have to do all the extra cutting from your original shape.) You just draw out the selection where you want you text, right click on the marching ants. Select "Make Work Path"; click OK on the tolerance dialog that comes up change to your text tool, click inside the shape you created and start typing. This doesn't work in Elements.
