When I was in school (back in the day), I remember talking to one of my teachers and saying, “I should…” His response to me was, “The world would be a better place if people would stop shoulding on themselves.” That phrase has always stuck with me and I actually use it a lot. I have taken it to mean that we either need to decide to do something or not do something, but not look back with guilt or regrets. The word “should” often comes from a place of guilt…especially in scrapbooking. If we change that SHOULD to WANT, it creates a whole new feeling. Let’s take a look:
I should scrapbook more.
vs.
I want to scrapbook more.
.
I should use more embellishments on my layouts.
vs.
I want to use more embellishments on my layouts.
.
I should try using less stuff on my layouts.
vs.
I want to try using less stuff on my layouts.
Dictionary.com defines the word should as:
must; ought (used to indicate duty, propriety, or expediency)
The great thing about scrapbooking is that there aren’t any rules and there aren’t any SHOULDS! As you move into the New Year, resolve to do what you WANT in your scrapbooking…what makes you happy…what is fulfilling to you! If you want to try something different or new….GREAT!! If you are happy where you are….AWESOME!!
Remember; there are no requirements, no rules, so stop shoulding on your scrapbooking!!

Today, we are offering a spot in Ali Edward’s popular class, “Yesterday, Today”. Here’s a little about it:

I’d love the opportunity to take this class, the concept sounds like it would be very rewarding emotionally and also very fun and interesting!
I know this class from Ali would inspire and get me started documenting my story.
I have so many “older” stories that I think this class would be so helpful for telling.
I would like to take this class, because it’s something I would not normally do, e.g. I would be stepping out of my comfort zone and learning new things
WOW, this class looks amazing! I’d love to do something like this, as I don’t have alot of standout memories from when I was younger, but I would love to document the ones that I do have! I believe it would be a treasured album for years to come, as it would show what things were like when I was growing up.
Also, neither my Mum or my grandparents scrapbook or document life in any way, and I find it rather sad not getting to see much of there perspective. I don’t want to be like that when I have kids, I want them to be able to see what my life was like growing up if they choose to.
Wish I would have known about this giveaway! I really want the class but cannot afford it right now!
I am a follower of Ali and her stories of everyday life approach.
Thanks for the reminder about framing our outlook on scrapping!
Great giveaway too – I’d love a chance to take the class!
Oh…i’d love to take this class!
I’ve never attempted to add more than 2 sentences to a layout so all the journaling and storytelling in this class will be excellent to learn from Ali the expert.
Oh yes – I’ve been saying I *should* get some pages done about my past but didn’t know how to start without photos – this class would be just the thing for me! Thanks for the chance!
I would like to take this class because journaling is the most important part of scrapbooking for me & I’d really welcome some help to tell my story & record it in my albums
Thanks!

This would be wonderful to win!
I would love to win a spot in one of Ali’s class. Thanks for the opportunity.
As an older Mom, most of my grandparents are no longer alive for my son to meet. I have spent most of my time scrapbooking my son’s life. I would love an opportunity for some guidance on scrapbooking my family so that my son can learn about the family he didn’t have an opportunity to meet.
I would love to win, I love Ali’s style. .
This class sounds amazing. I just received a journal and lots of memorabilia from my 89 year old grandmother and would love to use the class to help document some of her stories. Thanks for the chance to win!

I would love to take this class because I adore Ali and love her style.
And I have so many stories I want to tell. So many that I am in fact tripping on them and thus never telling any of them. Help would be awesome.

I should win this class.
vs

I want to take this class because I had a miserable 2010 and I need to start out 2011 with something great!
I would love love love to win…I have looked at this class oh so many times but due to the economy have to deny myself this year.
I would love to find this under my tree this year…. this year we have lost several family members and I would love to have some much needed help capturing some precious family memories… mixing the relationships and showing how are dear family is knit together.
I want to record more about everyday life – not just what the kids get up to.
I WANT to take this class to better preserve the family photos that have been handed down to me. I want to take this class so I can tell a better story about the people in those photographs.
I would love to take this class. When my mother passed away in June, I inherited box upon box of old photos that I want to scrapbook but I have no idea where to start. I don’t even know who some of the people in the photos are or how they were significant in my mother’s or her family’s life. It would be nice to give these photos the respect and loving care that they deserve.
I would love to take this class because I want to document the everyday life. My mom is starting to forget a lot of stuff that has happened and I would love to get the stories (from her perspective) while she still remembers.
I would love to take Ali’s class because I love her style. I am just beginning the process of scanning many of my families old photos and would love to know “Where do you begin creating with photos from generations past”. Thank you so much for the chance! Hope you have a Merry Christmas!! Betty Jo
I would love to take this class cuz I love Ali! I took a class of hers at the Mall of America about five years ago and love her style of scrapbooking.
Thanks for a fun giveaway….happy holidays!
Julie
This would be such a great way to start the year working on a project like this! Thanks for the chance to win!
I want and wish so much to win a spot in this class, love Ali! I learned this summer that I have a brother and sister from my dad previous marriage and since he past away, I realized how important for me and my children to record and capture my story for them and I still have my mother to turn too for stories to tell. This class is very special to me.
I think this class would be a great way to discipline myself to tackling all the boxes of photos and old albums that I’ve been “meaning to get around to.”
I have a lot of old photos that belonged to my mother and I’d like to create a cohesive album to display them and add a little about the people in the photos if I can.
I tried creating a keepsake scrapbook with all of my parents’ old photos (copies, of course) – to give to my son – and just got plain ‘stuck’, creatively. So this class has been on my wish list for a while now. Thanks for the chance to win.
I want to take this b/c I am a huge fan with good stories to tell and I can’t otherwise afford it!
I would love to take this class to get down some of my Grandfather’s stories before he’s gone. He is my last surviving grandparent and I hardly know anything about his life.
Now that I have children of my own, I realize how important the everyday little moments are the most meaningful. I have never scrapbooked my childhood, and think that this would be the best time to start and to pass on my past little moments to my children.
Thanks for the chance to win a spot!!!
I tend to not delve too deeply in my ‘whys and wherefores,’ so it would really be a good class for me to help take a harder look at who I am… Always room to learn!
I would love to win this class because it is a perfect way to learn about myself and my family. Plus I want to learn how to tell these stories when photos are sometimes not available.
I would like to scrapbook my heritage and need help getting started. This seems like just the class! Thanks for a chance to win.
I want to take this class to get the stories of the past documented.
I would so love to win this class. It would be a wonderful Christmas gift. I have all of my family’s older photos and I really would like (not should…hehehe) scrap more of them.
This class is on my Christmas list. I want to learn how to tell the stories for which I have no pictures.
I want to learn to tell stories that tie my Mom (who is gone) to our lives, today – because she as influenced so much of who we are.
I want to take this class because I love Ali and have never taken a class from her before. I want this class because I love to scrapbook. I want to take this class because it sounds fun! Thanks!!
I want to take this class so that I can revisit stories from my past. I’m way too much of an event scrapbooker and I really want to grow past that this year. Thanks for the opportunity!
I haven’t scrapbooked since my youngest (now almost 2 1/2) was born. Mostly because I lost my craft room, but also because I didn’t make an effort to make time for it. I would love to win a spot in this class. Love Ali Edwards!!
I would love to win this! Ali is my favorite designer and I’m always inspired by her.
I want to take this class because I recently inherited several bins of family photos and I would love to get these stories told! I’m slowly getting started, but this class would be a terrific motivator!
