IN THE DESIGNER’S STUDIO WITH KIM WRESH

DesignersStudiokimwreshcopy

I have been a fan of Kim and her templates for a long time!  Her templates are very similar to my natural scrapping (when I’m not using templates), so I find them very easy to use!  I am really excited to have her finally joining us in THE DIGI FILES!  I really enjoyed going through her interview and laughed right out loud a few time, I’m sure you will too!  Let’s take a closer look at her contribution included in THE DIGI FILES this month:

Usually I don’t share this information with anyone, but I love the filter>liquify tool in photoshop. It takes a little playing around with to learn how to use it but I often do to “trim” myself down a little or to give myself a subtle little nose job. There. I said it. I alter my nose and attempt to make myself a little thinner in my pictures. Please don’t tell anyone!

I have been a scrapper since I got married back in 1998. After my son was born in 2002 I just could not stomach pulling out all my stuff to scrap…just to have to put it all away again. I found a digital scrapping program at an electronics store but it was lame. I looked online to try and find what I was looking for, but never did.

I was at a craft fair and came across a booth for Memory Mixers. It was like the heavens had opened. My hubs bought me the software and I was hooked! Before I would scrap pages in Memory Mixer I would set up my layout with grey boxes and then clip my pictures to them and add elements. My brain worked better when I saw the page design before I added pictures. Little did I know I was creating templates! When I first started seeing templates pop up on IkeaGoddess’s site I was like, “HEY! That’s what I do!”

After I outgrew Memory Mixers and started using Photoshop I was able to save my templates. I contacted a digiscrap store that I liked at the time and they agreed to let me sell my templates in their shop!

Family memories is the number one reason I scrap. My kids love their scrapbooks and enjoy recalling fun family times. I also find scrapping (and crafting in general) to be therapeutic and calming when I am feeling anxious.

I will only tell you if you promise not to laugh. I have an eight year old Dell desk top computer. I have no idea what the model number or anything crazy like that is. I am a creature of habit and until this dinosaur ups and dies on me for good…we are in this together. When you have survived that many blue screens together the bond is strong.

There are two other laptops in our household but I really prefer my desk top. Weird, I know.

My camera is a Canon Power Shot. Someday I will get a big girl SLR camera but for now this little one takes good care of me.

I also have two external hard drives that my family has been instructed to grab first in the case of fire.

I have no idea how much RAM I have. I am guessing it is not enough.

I use CS3. It is the bee’s knees. Thank you Adobe.

I have a Wacom Tablet but I have never really used it. It is very new and high tech and therefore intimidates me. There is a pretty blue light on it and having one makes me feel legit.

Sorry if my lack of cool tools or technical knowledge is disappointing. I am just trying to keep it real my digi-sisters!

Love the templates and love what everyone did with them. Shows how even with a template each scrapper can make it her own.

Love the contribution to this months Digi Files and thoroughly enjoyed reading her blog! As a designer who literally just replaced an extremely old (and busted) PC… I understand. There’s something to be said for knowing exactly how your computer is going to react when you ask it to do something.

I enjoyed reading this, and I got a kick out of Kim’s not feeling the need to replace things which still “work.” That is a nice trait to have. I love templates as well, and hers are great. I like all her templates, but I really like the Twin Sets. Thanks.
