I’m Jennifer, a 30 year old stay at home mom to the two most wonderful, crazy children in the world. My son is 7 and in first grade and my daughter is 4 and stays at home with me. I’ve been married for 9 years to my college sweetheart. We live in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. I was an elementary school teacher for 7 years, but decided to leave teaching 2 years ago to stay home with my children. I like to tell my husband I’m officially retired, but I’m not so sure he buys it.

This is probably the simplest tip ever, but I know it’s something I struggled with for a long time. It’s so important not to get caught up in the competitive side of scrapping—you know what I’m talking about—and instead be true to yourself and your family. Try to look beyond scrapping to impress others and instead find your own unique style and voice and let it shine through. Not only will your layouts be better because you’re more comfortable creating them, but they’ll be something you can look back on in 20 years and think, “Yeah, that really was me.”

I discovered paper scrapping in college…but not the same paper scrapping I do today. That paper scrapping was cutting little photos and putting lots and lots of stickers everywhere. I have books full of my college scrapping and even though the “skill” is pretty sad, I love the memories! When I was pregnant with my son, I had to be on bedrest for four months. One of my friends was a Creative Memories consultant and she brought me lots of little goodies and taught me the basics of “real” paper scrapping. I loved that creative outlet and continued only paper scrapping until about 2 years ago when I discovered digi. Now digi is my primary means of scrapping, but I still love to go to paper crops and I don’t mind mixing my paper and digi layouts together in one album.
I started designing because a dear friend pushed me in that direction a little over a year ago. I entered a designing contest and actually won a spot in that store! Talk about being amazed!!! I officially started selling my designs on June 1, 2009 and I can honestly say that the past year has been a fabulous learning experience and a wonderful journey.

I find inspiration everywhere. Children’s TV networks are FULL of great color schemes and patterns. I love catalogs—everything from clothes to jewelry to bedding. Blogs are a huge source of inspiration for me—I especially love wedding blogs. Even a trip to the mall is inspirational. I keep a notebook with me everywhere I go and am constantly jotting down ideas for color palettes and themes.

I use a Dell desktop that is older than I care to share, lol. It has been updated, though, and has a new bigger hard drive and 4 GB RAM. I have 2 external hard drives, too. One stays plugged in almost all the time and houses my scrapping and designing stuff. The other is for back up only.
I use Photoshop CS3 as my main design tool, but also use Inkscape and occasionally PSE 6. I love my Wacom Bamboo tablet (and so do my kids!). I’m saving my pennies for CS5, though!!!
My camera is a Nikon D40. I adore it. I use my kit lens more than anything and love that I can get good photos pretty much anywhere.

I think my favorite right now is This Woman’s Work. This kit was really inspired by things going on in my life and it really hit home for me.
