One of the things that stumped me when I first started digital scrapbooking was how I should crop photos once they were on my canvas. I’m sure most of you are giggling and saying, “Really?” Yes, it is sad, and so very true!
I thought it would be great to show a couple of different options for cropping photos once they are on a layout. All joking aside, this is one question I get a lot. Another request I get from seasoned digital scrapbookers is to, “Please, please, please show new scrappers how to change a photo without distorting it.” Resizing or changing the shape of a photo the wrong way, can end up with some pretty crazy looking family members (you know, like they should be looking into a fun house mirror). So, I also cover that in this video. Enjoy!

I wish I had had this tutorial four years ago when I was scrapping my son’s birth announcement! It’s got just a little bit of fun-house mirror-effect!! I don’t think it bothers anybody but me.
I crop the same way you do (and even went through the same methods over time with the cutting-the-inverse thing!) but still, I learned something watching: I’ve never tried linking layers together (which looks just a little different from grouping, right?). Typically I just hold down the shift (or command/control) key and select multiple layers to move, but that looks handy — I will have to try it.
I hope you do more of these kinds of tutorials! I thought it was very clear and helpful; nice job on this.
Great tutorial! I hadn’t thought about using clipping mask unless it was a template. Great idea along with linking the 2 layers together. Thank you!
This tutorial is SO helpful. I had no idea how to do this. Thanks.
Great tutorial. I subscribed so I can quickly see when you upload a new tutorial. Thanks for a great lesson. You are appreciated! I love my Daily Digi subscription!
Thanks for the quick tutorial. I was always a little scared of PSE and used another program that was very limited. But listening to the digi show (new, so still catching up, I think I’m on 12) and these kinds of tips have been wonderful. Thanks again.
Great post – thanks for these tips! I’ve been digi-scrapping for years now and didn’t know that I could lock the resize in Photoshop CS. Thank you!
I too remember the frustration when I would use that crop tool and my whole layout would disappear! Thanks for a great lesson.
Thank you, I’ll be back to watch this one again.
Thanks for this post!
I absolutely LOVE the Daily Digi, the Digi Files and the Paperclipping Digi Show! The value is unbeatable in every way. You guys provide a fantastic resource to the digiscrapping community and I am so thrilled to have found it. My knowledge, skills (and stash!) have grown by leaps and bounds since I became a regular follower.
I have one suggestion: there should be a link on your header to the digi show! It’s great when you link up to the current show in your posts, but why not have it right there on the header where it’s always and immediately accessible? The show is so fun and informative — I think every visitor to any page should be able to see and link up to it! Just a thought
Keep up the great work and thanks so much for all you do.
Don’t laugh… I’ve been trying to figure it out! Thanks a million!
Just want to save this so that i can refer to it later. I had been going about cropping photos the wrong way, but i would keep cropping on all sides until they looked normal.
