Laurie Ann is one of those designers that I discovered more recently and wondered where I had been! I instantly fell in love with the subtle humor that often pops up in her kits (“Swoon” had me giggling for days). I also love they way she brings together colors and patterns in her papers. Her penants and doodles are adorable too! Let’s take a closer look at “Blossom Hill Road” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

I’m Laurie Ann, I live in New Hampshire with my handsome husband, Scott. We are blessed with two exceptional, grown children, Michelle, who is married and Joshua, who just finished his first year of college. We live one hour east to the beach, one hour south to Boston and only ten minutes to the closest mall; I wouldn’t want to live anywhere but here. I began digital scrapping in 2006 and have been designing since 2008. My other hobbies are baking, gardening, sewing… and I love to have craft days or nights with my girlfriends to make greeting cards, mini albums or whatever. I also listen to Pandora.com whenever I’m on the computer.

For over ten years now i’ve been a card maker and rubber stamper. I jumped into traditional scrapbooking soon after. It was when my daughter was in tenth grade that she had asked me to make her a scrapbook of all her school years. Later, in 2006 when i found digi-scrapbooking and became hooked instantly, I decided to start my son’s scrapbook. I must admit Joshua’s book was much easier and I was amazed at how beautiful it printed out from Shutterfly. I still love spending time in my craft room and enjoy creating mini albums for family and friends. 2008 was when I started designing and the timing was perfect since both of my children were grown and I had more time on my hands. I feel blessed having this opportunity to create digital designs from home… late at night and in my pj’s.

Computer: I have a desktop PC; It’s an HP Pavilion, 5GB RAM. I also have an external hard drive that’s almost full! Recently, I’ve adopted my son’s laptop; it’s also an HP.
Program: I am using Photoshop CS3. Anything else: I have a Wacom Tablet and I enjoy using Art Rage for digital painting.

This is kind of a two-fold tip for scrappers in relation to printing your layouts. Always add names and dates to your layouts. Right now names and dates are easy to remember however, there will come a time when we won’t and for when we’re gone, it’s important for these legacies that we leave behind, to have all the correct peeps and years. I have found that a 12 or 14 font size is perfect for a simple name and date. Speaking of font size… I learned a lesson early on about font size. The very first time I had some 12 x 12 layouts professionally printed, I was quite surprised and horrified to see my ginormous journaling! A 12 x 12 layout is a good size layout when it’s in your hands, that said, you don’t need to read your journaling from four or five feet away! It’s a good idea to always view your layouts at 100% to verify the font size. 14 to 16 is a good font size for journaling. One last tid bit, any photos, papers or elements that have been increased in size, will print blurry. Key word here is PRINT! While it looks perfectly fine when viewing in PS at say 19%, increasing elements that are 300 dpi will deteriorate the integrity which lowers the quality. Reducing on the other hand, has know effect.

Currently my two favorites are I Pick You and Heirloom Rose. I Pick You is charming and playful with the plaid and paisley and big, teeth monsters while Heirloom Rose has a French country and vintage flair with the chicken wire, roses and pearls.

Guessing, I think it’s Wedding Bliss.
