We love all forms of digital scrapbooking here at The Daily Digi and we’ve been happily noticing the increased interest in digital art journaling over the past few years. We have several past posts where we have celebrated the beautiful creations that digital scrapbook artists have put together:
- Let your inner artist come out and play
- Visual journaling for the digital scrapbooking non-artist
- Therapy through digital – putting it all out there for you
- Digital works of art
- This is digital scrapbooking
- Digi Show podcast about art journaling – Monkey proof with Tangie Baxter.
While digital art journaling has been around for awhile now, it seems that in the last 6 months there has been an explosion of related products, challenges, and resources for this type of digi scrapping. I thought it would be the perfect time to put together a BIG resource post to help you find all of the amazing art journaling inspiration out there in digiland.
Digital Stores and Communities
This year seems to be the year of digital art journaling! I’ve noticed many stores and forums now have categories and sections dedicated to art journalers who use both hybrid and full digital techniques for their pieces.
- The Lilypad has a forum devoted to art journaling, including Intro to Art Journaling, Art Journaling FAQs, Inspiration and a regular series of prompts hosted by designer and art journaler, Michelle Godin. TLP has also has Art Journaling Gallery, where artists are welcome to share their work.
- Scrap Orchard has a category in the shop just for digital art journaling and mixed media.
- Sweet Shoppe Designs has a dedicated area in their store for digital art journaling items.
- Scrapbook Graphics features an art journal/collage section in their store. There is also an area in their forum for art journaling exploration and you can also get a free ezine from Studio Tangie in this thread.
- Oscraps has an altered art/collage category in their shop that is filled with products perfect for art journaling. The Anna Aspnes team also hosts challenges in the forum for art journaling.
- Scrap Matters has a section of their shop dedicated to art journaling.
- Shine from Within is a new project from Captivated Visions, Studio Tangie, and Studio Rosey Posey, all about digital art journaling. There is also a free lookbook on the site to download.
- Digital art journaling layouts are always welcome in our Flickr group!
Digital Designers
Many digital designers create products that can be used in art journaling (there are no rules to what you can or cannot use!), but there are a few that really stand out in this category because it is a major emphasis for them.
- Studio Tangie has designs that are so artistic and filled with symbolic details. She is a real leader in the digital art journaling movement and has her own Art Journaling Caravan available on her blog.
- CD Muckosky is a wonderfully talented artist using markers, paints, watercolors, and other real art supplies to create her work and then digitize it so we can use it on our own digital layouts!
- Anna Aspnes is an amazing and inspiring artist who was playing with art journaling techniques before the rest of us even knew the term. Her ArtPlay Palettes are especially well suited to art journaling.
- Captivated Visions has an ongoing Free Blog Series & Workshop called The Art of Artful Digi Scrapping. She discusses Artful Digi Scrapbooking which encompasses Mixed Media, Art Journaling and also Digital Collage. She hosts an art journaling gallery on her site (products must contain 80% Captivated Visions). Her store is also packed with mixed media kits and art journaling supplies!
- Michelle Godin’s shop is a treasure trove for the Art Journaler and she hosts the art journaling challenges at The Lily Pad.
- Studio Rosey Posey loves to focus on digital art journaling and collage techniques. She is filled with inspiration in these areas!
- T for Me has turned to a new focus of products that are very artsy and perfect for art journaling creations.
- Val C. designs many art journaling backgrounds and also a lot of word/quote art perfect for this type of scrapping.
Digital Products
Ok, I hope you are ready for some MAJOR ENABLING because I have found oodles of art journaling designs that I know you will love! Each image is linked to the store where you can find the product.
This is the set of papers I used for the title graphic. All I had to do was add text!
And Tracie Stroud has a special bonus for TDD readers! Art and Soul Bundle is packed to the brim with art journaly goodness. TDD readers can save an extra $2 on the purchase of Art and Soul Bundle through February 28 when they use coupon code TDD-artNsoul at checkout.
I’m ready to play, how about you?

PS. Congratulations to this week’s reader, Jeri, who has won $10 to The Digi Chick. Thanks for commenting!

Nice article Katie – good source of resources!!
I have been a digital art journaler for a long time. I recall how I in the beginning felt it so liberating to be doing “scrapping” but not feeling I had to record something important, but just make artful pages and get out emotions and use my stash.
It a good way to “deal” with issues.
And no, it doesn’t have to be messy to be called AJ. It could be very minimalistic indeed. It’s the process that counts.
And I forgot to mention that Onestorydown also has a lot of good AJ supply.
I just did a new post, and had nearly forgotten this one – but went back to add a link. Just reviewed the comments here, too, and may need to add yet another shop to my list: Resources for Digital Art Journaling | Shops: some brief reviews
loving this article!! Have been art journaling since I became a CT member for SherrieJD (so don’t forget about her) and since I started designing it’s the style/type of product I love to create the most. Thanks for showing so many Art Journal products/designers, it’s always fun to see some new stuff!
Great post, Katie! Digital Art Journaling has my heart. Thanks for this great list of resources. And don’t forget about Deviant Scrap. There are lots of designers there that have kits that will work perfectly for your art journal pages. There is also an art journaling forum and gallery to keep you insprired.

Awesome article, K – and tons of finds in Digiland that I wasn’t aware of – off shopping I go!! thx again
Thank you so much for this post. I love journaling–and attempt art! LOL It is wonderful to find so many new designers and shops carrying supplies. Please keep updating this post–maybe add to the Friday shopping sometimes? It is one very helpful feature of TDD– that I let you all be my personal shoppers. I never would have located all these supplies on my own!
Thanks!
Hi!!! You forgot one Outside the Box Designs. Her entire site is Art Journaling, Faith Journaling and challenges. Her site is only a few months old, she used to be at GDS but has since been a guest at Deviant Scrap and now has her own shop!!!
http://outsidetheboxdesignstudio.com/
LOVE her stuff!!!
Also, personally I have a group on Facebook that is called Digital Art Journal Stuffage where we don’t allow advertising for scrapbooking and is completely Art Journal! We have some very talented artists in there that create AMAZING pages and are always sharing where they find some really great stuff!!!
You can find the group at this address… https://www.facebook.com/groups/285397054892202/
What an inspiring collection of Art journaling resources. Some of my favourites can be found in the DSP Art journaling section of their store. http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=41_265
I particularly enjoy using the work of Lauren Bavin, Elizabeth Weaver and Nicole Young for arty pages.
Thank you for mentioning my Heart Art, Katie! What a great list of artsy things. Love this post!
Art journaling have got to be my latest passion too!
I’m creating so many new kits for it!!!!Just LOVE to see my “Angel’s #1″ here !!!!!!!
Thanks for the mention!
xoxo

I’ve been doing a series of posts on Digital Resources for Art Journalers & Collage Artists at my blog. I’ll add a link to this post on my next one in the series.
I’m pleased to see the Daily Digi feature art journaling. Hope to see more!
I just have to say how surprised I was that Nancie Rowe Janitz was left off the list of designers. When I think of art journaling Tangie Baxter and Nancie are the first two artists that come to mind. TDD is usually spot on with their articles but I think omitting this gem and veteran art journaling style artist was a big faux pas. Nancie sells her products as JessicaSprague.com and also has a digital art journaling class there.
I promise it wasn’t intentional as I love Nancie’s stuff too! I just forgot about her because it’s hard to remember everything!
Don’t forget Jessica Sprague’s site as an art journalling resource. I took her class, which is now available self-paced I think, last January and I loved that by the end of the class I had about 20 pages which I bound with my Cinch into my own little hybrid journal. Nancie Rowe Janitz, former owner of Scrap Artist, is now at jessicasprague.com and she has a lot of supplies to work with as well.
thanks so much! I forgot about all the resources that Jessica Sprague has.
Art journaling (both traditonal and digi) have got to be my latest passions. Thanks for sharing all of these resources
I would love to see some layouts using this form of scrap booking, just to see how people do it. I have never tried it, and it scares me a bit going outside the box! lol.
we definitely love to share art journaling layouts here! Some of our past posts are linked here, but we will be doing more.
This was really inspiring, Katie: Thank you!
Ah, a subject that is near and dear to my heart Katie. I started art journaling about a year ago after months and months of pinning, watching videos, reading blogs and generally being fascinating with the whole process. My advice, if this captures your heart, is to go after it. Don’t let the “artsy” aspects scare you. There are no rules, just listen to your heart. It’s easy and a wonderful and can be a good tool for self expression. Plus the creative joy-ride is the best! I hope to eventually publish a Blurb book of just arty pages.
totally agree! I would love to see your Blurb book when you do it!
Thank you for the info. I do subscribe to Tangie Baxter’s Art Caravan, and it’s so nice to find so much more art journal supplies.
WOW what a collection! I saw so many ” new to me” designers.. Ahhhh I think I am off shopping LOL Thanks for that review Katie!
