Stay Inside

It’s no secret that I don’t particularly enjoy the cold weather. Snow is pretty on December 25, and after that…well, I’d rather it disappear. Alas, we don’t always get our way and that’s why I usually choose to just STAY INSIDE.

This fun kit with bright reds and pretty blues is the perfect companion for all your too-cold-to-go-outside photos and activities. Hot cups of coffee, snuggles by the fireplace, and being with family—the upsides to cold days.

These are photos from my daughter’s SnapChat account so the quality is not great so I kept them small in size. The title is made from word strips in the kit. Using the Magic Eraser, I erased the background and then gave them a little shadow so they’d stand out a bit more clearly against the background.

Sometimes simple is best! I love the way Jill chose to use the white wood background with her beautiful photo and choice elements. It
feels cold! The simplicity of the page makes it stunning!

Layout by Jill. Supplies:

I used a couple of design principles here: grounding and visual triangle. The triangle is easy to see, with the bright pops of red. They were almost necessary once I chose the Coffee Always embellishment. I like to make sure things are grounded when I’m scrapbooking and I grounded the coffee cup with swaths of paint and the picture with the strips of paper and ribbon. I also grounded the embellishments in the corner with the circle and the picture. This helps to make sure things aren’t just floating around on my page.

Journaling cards as titles! Trina used one of the many journaling cards in the kit for the title of her page. I do that often as well! It makes creating a title super fast and easy. If you want more ideas for using journaling cards on your layouts, check out
this post and this video tutorial!

As soon as I opened my blanket at Christmas, I knew I had to get a picture with it to scrap with this kit. I’ve found that I am constantly thinking through the kits I have and trying to look for pictures that would work with them as we are out and about. A lot of times, it’s the opposite – I will find a kit to go with the pictures I already have… but switching things around can be a fun challenge to!

Layout by Bethany. Supplies:
Stay Inside by THE DAILY DIGI.

Although this is a winter-ish themed kit, it doesn’t mean it can’t work for other subjects and seasons. I already had these photos in black and white and I thought they would work great with the pop of colors in this kit. I loved the way it turned out!

Winter Woods

Winter hit the US with full force this weekend! 49 of our 50 states had snow on the ground somewhere in the state. This kit is perfect for documenting your winter adventures!
Check it out!

I have precious few photos of my kids in the snow so I wanted one of the photos to be large. However, I loved the background whitewashed wood paper so well that I reduced the opacity of the large photo so that the dark bits of the background paper would show through.

Layout by Jacki. Supplies:
Winter Woods by THE DAILY DIGI. Font: Magnolia Sky.

I find that adding shadows as you scrap really helps make some of your design decisions easier. The garland at the top of the page got filled in after a shadowed the bottom most piece. I also used the edges of the frames for journaling so they wouldn’t get lost on the background pattern paper.

Layout by Luly. Supplies:
Winter Woods by THE DAILY DIGI. Alpha 1 and 2 by The Daily Digi.

My pictures were pretty monochromatic and I think they really stand out against the blue background with the touches of red. I kept the red touches in a visual triangle to move my eyes around the layout.

Layout by Sharon. Supplies:
Winter Woods by THE DAILY DIGI.

I love how Bethany draws your eye through the page, using the stars masterfully to lead you past the photos to the journaling. Perfect!

Layout by Bethany. Supplies:
Winter Woods by THE DAILY DIGI.

A pop of red can be such a powerful design element. Here, Janet pairs it with black and white photos, allowing for a more cohesive look.

Enjoy The Ride

Life can be tough, but you just need to KEEP. ON. PEDDLING. and ENJOY THE RIDE. We’re excited to bring you this month’s third full kit. It’s full of inspiring colors and patters, with lots of word art to remind you to just keep going and enjoy the ride.

My number one tip should always be: PROOFREAD YOUR LAYOUTS. Seriously, you wouldn’t believe the number of typos I have on my printed layouts, all because I don’t proof first. Typos aside (did you see it?), I love this page. The striped paper gives a feeling of movement, as well as the arrows and the circle (supporting the idea of wheels.) I added the white paper to give the eyes a resting spot in an otherwise busy layout.

Layout by Janet. Supplies:
Enjoy The Ride by THE DAILY DIGI.

Sula is so talented when it comes to her pages. Just look at all she gets on a page without it feeling crowded or overdone. I especially love the trees sticking out at the top…it makes me feel like I am right there in the woods with her.

Layout by Sula. Supplies:
Enjoy The Ride by THE DAILY DIGI.

Trina’s page is such a great example of balance. The thick vertical lines are balanced with the strong horizontal title and arrows. The circular elements are placed in a way that creates a visual triangle centering on the photo. And the black to white balance on her page is just perfect, allowing the touch of colors to really POP.

Layout by Trina. Supplies:
Enjoy The Ride by THE DAILY DIGI.

This layout is part of my yearlong Faithbooking project. I was really inspired by the trees here and thought they added a lot to the meaning of my chosen verse. I placed them in my layout at 42% luminosity and that seemed to give them the texture I was looking for.

Layout by Sharon. Supplies:
Enjoy The Ride by THE DAILY DIGI. Blender by Brandy Murry; Fonts: Beauty and the Beast, Century.

Even a bad photo can tell an important story. This was a major milestone I wanted to record, so I opted to use a section of a bad photo, made black and white. The title and journaling says it all!

Joyful All The Way

JOYFUL ALL THE WAY…

It’s a new month and a new year and we’re JOYFUL. We’re excited to share this bright and happy kit, full of color and pattern. It’s oh-so-cheerful, perfect for scrapping all those JOYFUL moments!

I really stretched myself by not using templates this month. On this layout, I wanted to use more of the patterned papers so I placed some of them in at angles in the lower right hand corner. I thought this added some balance to my picture on the upper left side, while the stitching and banner grounded the picture.

Layout by Sharon. Supplies:
Joyful All The Way by THE DAILY DIGI. Frame by Kim Meeder; Journal spot by Designs by Lili; Font: The Sharon.

While the template called for circles, there weren’t any elements in the kit that I wanted to use in their place. But then I thought it would be fun to make the cute painted flowers into their own element – pasting them onto a plain background and using a mat to offset them. Love how they just draw all the colors of the kit and pictures together.

Layout by Bethany. Supplies:
Joyful All The Way by THE DAILY DIGI. Template by Think Happy Be Happy by Fiddle Dee Dee Designs.

Any layouts with babies makes me happy! But, I also love where Trina put the rainbow element. It seems to connect and guide your eye from one photo to the other.

Layout by Trina. Supplies:
Joyful All The Way by THE DAILY DIGI.

My sweet girl is so full of cheerful glee. I love seeing her smile and listening to her laugh. When I came across these pictures of her in her bright pink jammie shirt, I knew this kit would be perfect. Like with most of my layouts, I chose to use a
series of photos instead of just one. I always feel it captures the story better than a single photo.

Layout by Janet. Supplies:
Joyful All The Way by THE DAILY DIGI

I had a bunch of photos from my kids swimming over the summer. I wasn’t in love with any of them particularly, but I didn’t want to let them go to waste, either. So, I decided to take a variety of photos from different days and put them all on one layout. The memories are recorded, but I didn’t end up with a dozen pages of the same activity.

Celebrate The New

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES, COME ON!

We’re excited to share this fun and glittery kit with you! It’s just perfect for all your celebrations into the new year. Glitter, glitter, and more glitter! Check it out!

Jacki always blows me away with her layouts! On this page, I love how she used a mostly-white background to contrast with the darker photos of dark clothes. A different background might have gotten the photos lost. And that bit of confetti? Love it.

Layout by Jacki. Supplies: Celebrate the New by THE DAILY DIGI.

Trina did a great job with balance on this layout. The photo strip on the bottom is tipped the opposite way of the glitter banner, making the entire layout feel stable. And all that shimmer? Yummy.

Layout by Trina. Supplies: Celebrate the New by THE DAILY DIGI; #Summer Break Family Reunion (template) by The Digi Crafter.

Text in anything other than straight lines adds so much fun and visual interest to pages. I adore Bethany’s shaped journaling on this layout. It adds such a sense of purpose and movement.

Layout by Bethany. Supplies: Celebrate the New by THE DAILY DIGI. Template by Scrapping with Liz.

Making a title big and bold, like Sharon did on this page, makes such a statement. Immediately, my eyes are drawn to the photos and the title. Love it.

3 years ago I discovered project life, since than I’m in love with it. I love to scrap the everyday life moments and the small things life is giving us, and this is what made me finish 2 full albums already. It happens often I use my own collections for this albums. My latest project was our visit to a Dutch Palace which is a museum as well.

I first started as a paper scrapper in 2007 when my first daughter was born. In 2008 when my son was born I saw some other scrap methods at some of my friend’s sites, and that’s where I discovered digital scrapbooking, which is now my most favorite way to scrap.

inspired

I can be inspired by everything. colors, music, memories, and my kids. Mostly I create inspired by memories of my kids and what they are doing in their little lives.

tools

Computer: I have a custom-built pc with 16gb RAM & run Windows 10. Next to that I have a 24 inch monitor.

Program: For my scrapping and designing I use Photoshop CS5.

Camera: I have a Canon 1100D with a 15-88mm lens. And for some outdoors shots I use my iphone camera.

tipstricks

Be sure to have always a small camera with you. It can be your phone or just a small camera so you are always able to capture small, and unexpected important memories. Before I was always forgetting my phone so when there were moments I was so sad that I forgot. But now this year I don’t forget.

favorite

Explore Dinosaur is my favorite. Recently a small adventure park opened his doors here in our city, and it was all dinosaur themed. So when we went there it all inspired me to create this collection so I could scrap those awesome pictures I took. It is my favorite because of the 2 cute big dinosaurs inside.

DesFav

popular

This was a hard one. Move your feet was very popular when it was released. It is a dancer collection at that time my daughter just started Jazz dance and I wanted to have something to scrap those memories. But I didn’t wanted it to be pink. So I choose some more alternative/adult colors. And I think that made it so popular – a dance collection that isn’t pink or ballet that can be used for all style dancers.

Name

I grew up in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, and wandered about the Jura and Alps until I decided to go to college in the United States, where my parents were from. After that, things got complicated, but now I live right in the middle of the Oregon Coast in a beautiful little village named Yachats (pronounced “yah-hots”) with my husband, my schooled-at-home son, an elderly cat, and two dogs.

layout

I had a real problem trying to figure out which part of my artistic life I should focus on, so I put them all together–although I totally left out digiscrapping! *laugh* I draw a lot, mostly in pen and alcohol inks; I write poetry and doodle in my art journal; I make jewelry and also make mini-beaded landscapes; I do a lot of photography; I mess around with fabric painting; and I make fonts (all available for free, to pay back the design community with helping me start out with free tools).

DesignerLO

started

I think I got started about 13 years ago, when I started designing Asian-themed rubber stamps after discovering an online group that was really artistically challenging. I was adjusting to leaving professional life full-time because my son had just been born, and was looking for things to keep my mind busy. Then a friend from that group started showing me these mini-albums she was making with digital images, and I started messing around with “making stuff.” Vinnie Pearce is the one who gave me my first real break into high end digital designing, though! I sold at her Pixel Canvas store, and made some lifelong digifriends through that.

inspired

Anything. Usually patterns or color, but it could be as mundane as a deadline, the season, or just itchy fingers… =) A lot of time I’ll be doodling and all of a sudden get ideas from that, too.

tools

Computer: I have an old (6 years?), hand-assembled computer (the computer store did the assembling, however). I run Windows 10 with 4 Gb of RAM, but I keep nothing except my actual programs on there–everything else, ALL my files, are on my 5 Tb EHD, which I mirror less frequently than I should on another couple of EHDs.

Program: I can’t stand to pay money for something I’m not going to own, so I’m using Adobe Creative Design Suite 5.5 and sticking with it. That includes Photoshop & Illustrator, which are my biggest graphic design tools, and Bridge, which I now use to sort my images. I use Main Type by High-Logic to preview and sort my fonts.

Camera: I have a Rebel T5i, and I just love the kit lens that came with it, the 18-55mm. I also have a 75-300mm, and a simple little fixed 100mm lens. They are all totally dirty with salt and sea air, alas!

Anything Else: I haven’t used a mouse in 13 years, ever since I got my trusty Wacom Intuos 3. It has completely saved my hands and wrists!

tipstricks

Gosh, there’s so much to be said, and it’s so different depending what level of skill you possess. At the base, though, I would say that keeping your files super-organized by designer & by kit is the most important, and tag each element as you get it! It’s a small price to pay for maintaining an ever-growing inventory. =) Artistically, the best tip I have is to play with blending modes such as overlay, color burn, hard light, etc. You can find some amazing effects that will make you want to play!

favorite

Today, this product is tickling my yummy-bone because it’s gray outside and the colors are cheering me up. =) (Tomorrow I’d probably pick a different one!) I love the fun, vibrant, clean feel to the kit. I was playing with the idea of a snapshot–just that tiny, frozen moment in time… a bright spot amongst hazy memories.

This is one of my favorite childhood photos. An image of me at an early age outside my Grandparents home. Long spindly legs, hand knitted teal cardigan, the vintage motor vehicle, as well as my Grandma and Granddad watching me with great pride. This particular house was a constant throughout my childhood years as I lived a nomadic lifestyle within the British Armed Forces and later attended a boarding school. Every photo has a story and can be celebrated through art.

started

I began paper scrapbooking just after the birth of my first child in 2012, as a means of documenting the baby stages, but I never really found my groove with the scissors and glue approach. I happened upon my first digital layout with blended photos shortly thereafter, was instantly smitten by this ‘sport’ and have never looked back since. The endless creative possibilities of using Adobe Photoshop have kept me entertained and serving the artsy digital scrapbooking community for over 14 years, and it all started with a simple request to share my art.

inspired

I have always been a little different and I like it that way. I have never been one to follow the crowd and have also marched to the beat of my own drum. I’m driven by color, shapes and strong texture and am grateful to be able to share my passion with others (because I can neither sing nor dance.) It’s the biggest gift.

tools

Computer: I work and create on a PC desktop, built and maintained by my husband, who is the tech guy around here. I couldn’t tell you what the specs are, other than it runs like a race horse, just the way I like it.

Program: I use Adobe Photoshop CC and Elements 14 for play, designing and teaching.

Camera: I mostly us my iPhone 6 for taking photos, but once in a while I pull out all stops and put my Canon 60D SLR to good use. My favorite lens are my 50mm 1.4 or 16-35mm 2.8 Wide Angle Lens.

Anything Else: I have a Wacom Intuous Photo which continues to work well for me. Less is often more having worked with a number of different tablets. I find a pen much more intuitive than a mouse when creating and recently taught a class about PenPLAY.

tipstricks

Embrace What Is. We always want to be better, do more, and in effect get to that place where we’re all brilliant artists. Stop it. Progress is a good goal to have, but not at the expense of enjoying the process. If you’re constantly looking ahead at what could/should be happening, you will miss the magic of what is happening in the current moment. You will bypass all the small adventures and discoveries along the way, and be frustrated rather than delighted by the small successes that contribute to your ultimate goal. Have patience, silence your inner critique and be confident in the artist you are now. You are entitled to create art and/or scrapbook your way. Focus on the journey and not just the destination.
