Birthday magic word art and kit by Kitty Designs

Why go out buy a birthday card when you have all the ingredients to make a customized card in minutes? If you are a digital scrapbooker, you most likely have kits, fonts, alphas, and even templates that can easily be used to create memorable birthday greetings to send by mail or on the web.

Digital kits can be reused over and over. This is great for layouts (read Janet’s great post on reusing kits here), but you can also extend the life of these same kits by finding other projects for them such as cards and gift tags.

Birthday kits can be use in a variety of ways to create one of a kind cards to print or share online. I (Katie) love this Little Mr. Big Man kit from Traci Reed because it has so many fun and bright birthday theme elements.

Traci Reed

I know I can come up with several cards from the designs in this kit. Here’s one I created for my sweet nephew.

Additional supplies: card template by Bree Clarkson , font is Christy by Darcy Baldwin at Sweet Shoppe Designs

Another favorite birthday kit that I have used several times is Occasions by Shabby Princess.

Shabby Princess

I love to personalize a card by including a picture of the recipient in the design. It doesn’t have to be a recent picture, this is the perfect excuse to dig out some baby or youthful photos to use.

This Birthday Magic kit by Kitty Designs will also provide plenty of designs to use on special cards.

Of course you don’t have to limit yourself to using birthday theme kits, any kit can make a great card! The Embrace kit by Paislee Press and Fei Fei’s Stuff is perfect for elegant card designs. Feel free to use (and reuse) any kit that you want to to make your own special creations for friends and family.

I also need some great instructions on how to print out the cards at home. I tried Xmas Cards this year but never got them to print out correctly on paper. Any help would be appreciated.

I make cards all the time, but usually Thank You cards. I really should do some birthday ones. I made a little logo from a digi brush to put on the back. So cute! (It’s a shark fin because hubby’s a Jimmy Buffett fan and everyone knows that’s just “us.”)

  8. Michelle W says:

the tricky part for me has always been printing. I can’t ever get the front and back printed properly to line up. After seeing your inspiration though, I think I’ll give it another try.

There are so many wonderful birthday related kits available from some of the shops for digi-scrappers. On my wish list is from The Sweet Shoppe is Party Poppin’. With 2 nieces under age 4 it is purfect for their birthday LOs. The Shabby Shoppe has a baby album, The Ultimate Baby Album – Princess, is just perfect for creating an album for my newborn niece. And i must buy the Clip It Numerically at Oscraps.

  30. Sandy_in_MD says:

Birthday cards were my first digi projects – going all the way back to using Print Shop in the mid-1990’s. I don’t know if anyone else does this, but to save on printing costs, I will buy 50 pack bundles of white or multi color packs of cards & envelopes at Michaels, and then print out a design that can be cut out and put on the front of the card. (You can do the inside of the card the same way too.) You can fit a couple on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet. This also can help solve those pesky lining up the front and backs during printing. Sometimes I print an additional copy of some of the elements on the card, cut them out and affix them on top of the same item on the front of the card with glue dots. (hope that explanation makes sense!) It is a quick way to add a little additional dimension to the card.

  31. Lesli says:

Sometimes…when I am really organised, LOL, I will make a lot of my cards in advance and file them. I find when I need to do one in a hurry, I can “reuse” one I have already made (as long as I have saved the layered version)and change it around to personalise it. Cards in NZ are pretty expensive, so I love to do my own!

  32. Michelle D. says:

This is great! Maybe I can actually do something hybrid and make a few cards w/my digi supplies! TY!!! Beautiful cards!
