We’ve been in birthday mode all month long here at The Daily Digi, so I (Katie) thought it would be fun to use today’s “Un-Digi” post to share some fabulous birthday cake (and cupcake) ideas!
Bakerella’s moist yellow birthday cake. Yum!
Best birthday cake from Smitten Kitchen. I just love yellow cake with chocolate frosting!
How about a no-bake cake? Martha Stewart shows you how easy it is to make this fun cake.
This candyland cake from Taste of Home would thrill any child (or adult!)
This teddy bear cake is sooooo amazing! You have to check it out on the Not So Humble Pie blog!
This cookie crown cake from Family Fun would make anyone feel like royalty!
How about a really gourmet cake? Try this chocolate raspberry pistachio cake from La Tartine Gourmande and enjoy some incredible photography while you’re there!

The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake ever from Pioneer Woman. I’ve made it 3 times and it really is the best EVER!

Cupcakes are another perfect way to celebrate birthdays and they work especially well for parties. Each guest will feel like they got their own special little cake!

I don’t know about you, but I’m really hungry for some cake now! Off to the kitchen…
I (Steph) wanted to share with you a really fun cake I found when tls63 linked up to her layout here in the comments section a while back
It really looks like a super fun cake! Here is her layout:
I left her a comment and she linked me up to the recipe too! You can also find some step-by-step instructions with great photos on Meg’s blog. It looks like so much fun!
Since we are on the subject of rainbows, I thought I would relink to this fun post that Janet did a while back and showed us how to make these fun cupcakes:
There is also “Ace of Cakes” that my kids and I are addicted to. Janet shared CAKE WRECKS awhile back, but I thought today would be a great day to share again!
P.S. Today’s GIFTaway winner is Catherine O. who was randomly selected from those that have purchased THE DIGI FILES so far this month!
She won a $10 Gift Certificate to Something Blue Studios, check your inbox Catherine!

Thanks for posting my LO here! All of the cakes here look amazing and delicious. Thanks for sharing!
It’s like CakeWrecks “Sunday Sweets” visited The Daily Digi today (one of my favorite blogs when I need a laugh). My kids *love* the psychedelic cupcakes that Janet posted a while back. I’ve made them four times. Love them!!!
Need to check out PDub’s rainbow cake…that looks FUN!
They all look yummy, now headed for the kitchen.
Yum Yum!!! Thanks for the great photos and the links! I need to make a b-day cake/cupcakes next week and needed some inspiration. So thank you!
ABSOLUTELY delicious post today Katie! I ADORE the Candyland cake as it brings back some GREAT memrories!
Thank you for ALL that you do in bringing us FABULOUS digi AND non-digi goodness!
Hugs …
This is a great site! What fab pics and ideas for cakes and celebrations. Thanks! I am so glad Ali Edwards pointed me here!
I love the cakes! Especially the rainboe one! I have two birthdays coming up in Feb thanks for the great ideas!
Oh I made the rainbow cupcakes for my son’s first birthday party after reading Janet’s post about them. I went with a whole rainbow theme with the cupcakes as my starting point. It was so fun and colorful and a big hit!
Yum…what a delish post…now I’m craving something sweet!
Oh, what a delicious post!
YUM! You enablers!!
I like cake, but hate frosting, so I usually make a very chocolatey bundt cake and dust with crystal sprinkles or powdered sugar. For the kids’ birthday cakes, it’s a different story. They love frosting!
My daughter is allergic to tree nuts, and I’ve found that Enjoy Life chocolate chips make the BEST cake and frosting. They melt better and are much richer in flavor. I get mine at Whole Foods.
Since bakery items are too dangerous purchased elsewhere, I always make them from scratch.
Wonderful ideas here! Thanks for a little sweetness.
I can’t believe I missed it the first time Cake Wrecks was linked up. I’ve spent the past hour reading her site! And I have tears streaming down my face because I was laughing so hard! I had to get up and walk away for a bit because I literally couldn’t see from the laughter! – Thanks for re-sharing that gem of a blog!
Let’s try that again.
