I’m sure most of us either have dreaded or do dread doing layouts that are all about us! Let’s face it, finding motivation to scrap ourselves can be very difficult! Why though, do we scrap the memories that we do about other people? Usually, it’s to help our loved ones remember, to save the memories for those that will come after, and have the memories so that we can relive them again and again. If WE, the memory keepers, don’t preserve the memories about US, who will???
I (Steph) remember a couple of years ago, a thread at DST about Cathy Zilske’s “Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life Album” class. I too had read the article in Simple Scrapbooks that the original poster referred to and realized that I had nothing like that to leave my family. I was determined to create an “EOL” album and even bought the book to help give me some ideas. I am so sad to say that I haven’t done it….yet!
As I was preparing for this post, I did some digging and found that Cathy will be teaching this class in September called:
Me: The Abridged Version, An A to Z All About Me
Cathy will teach the class at Big Picture Scrapbooking next month and the best part is that it will be HYBRID!!!! I WILL be taking the class because I know myself and I know that with deadlines, I can get pretty much anything done, but if it is open ended, it probably won’t happen. The really cool thing about the class is that I will get (and you will too, if you join me 
) digital 8.5×11 templates, digital alpha blocks, digital journaling blocks, and digital title blocks all designed by Cathy Z herself! The digital elements are designed to be printed and combined with real paper to create a hybrid album. If you are like me though, you will want to combine them with digital papers and print (making a completely digital album). The class is a four week class, so it breaks everything down into manageable chunks. One of the goals of the class made me smile and I can’t WAIT to accomplish it! Here it is: You will learn how to let go of preconceived notions of what constitutes good journaling. Ahhh, the freedom! The best part is when the class is done, I will have 26 pages of memories about myself documented for my kids and for myself!

I don’t like being in photos so scrapping a page about myself has been a little tough. I’m going to change that though, I need to be in the memories.
I have the hardest time scrapping about myself and know that I really need to, but it’s the project that always gets put on the back burner. Thanks for the reminder!

I love CZ, her style, sense of humour and attitude to life are all so great. I’d also love to do that course- it’s not in the budget at the moment though! Unlike you I enjoy scrapping my own stories and have a pile of things I’d like to scrap about me – but like the mother I am generally put the kids stuff before my own!

A whole book of me….hmmmm…yes, I’d definitely need prodding and a deadline…I could see myself getting started and putting it off….I’ll have to look into the different sites and classes. Super kit, looks like there is tons of stuff in it…no excuse not to scrap if you have that!

This is fantastic kit! I have recently started making more pages about me. I want my children to see their mother as well as them when they look through their books. Daddy is starting to play a big part too. Thanks for the heads up on the class!

I’m always thinking of the next generation when I scrap and what sort of memories I’m recording for them. I try to remember to scrap about myself and not just my thoughts about the kids.

Oh how cool would it be to win this kit? I am 54 and have never scrapped a page about me. But this article really got me thinking that I should.
It got me to thinking HOW MUCH I would love to have something like this from my mom or grandmoms who are no longer here. What a treasure that would be.

I really believe in this concept. I have some old scrapbooks and bios of a few ancestors and they are a treasure even if they didn’t live lives of fame. Their lives were interesting to me. I need to do the same for my great-grandchildren.

Wow! This topic has been on my mind for awhile (since one of my really good friends died in a car accident and left her 3 year old and 1 year old without a mother). I took Cathy’s original class. I finished all but the last page in the album while I was at CKU. I love it. Even several years later. I’ve tried to do the “Week in the Life” Album, but never finished it. I have all the pictures in an album, I just need to get the journaling into it. And at this point in my life it’s probably time to do another book. Things are changing and it’s hard to keep track. That collab kit looks awesome for this type of project!!!

This post has seriously inspired me. I have a lot of trouble figuring out what to scrap because my husband and I don’t have kids right now, and there’s only so many pages you can scrap about your dog! Lol On the other hand, I would love to know more about what my mom was like before we kids came along. A book about me seems like a logical step! I would love love love to win this kit to be a unifying theme for my pages.
