Celebrate the Earth

It’s the time of year when I absolutely hate having to stay inside. The temperatures are amazing, the unfurling leaves are exquisite, and the hope of new life is overwheleming. I just love being outside in nature. As we prepare to celebrate Earth Day next week, this kit is to help us slow down and notice the beauty everywhere around us.

I’ve never done a layout like this before (but I was trying to find a way to use this kit!). I merged two stories and two different times of photos onto one page. In my journaling I used a break between paragraphs and then included dates for both events. Not sure how I feel about the finished product yet because it’s so different than what I normally do! But I’m strict with myself to only create layouts I’ll print and put in my kids’ scrapbooks. Plus, I would rather pay for a print that has multiple photos!

I liked the striped paper but thought it needed just a bit more. I took the all-over floral paper and placed it over the stripes. I changed the opacity to Soft Light, which gave the illusion of the flowers in the background.

I thought this layout was done when the thought occurred to me to rotate the entire thing by a little to set it off kilter. I don’t know why this pleased me, but it did so I went with it.

On this page, I worked with shapes, solids, and patterns. Notice how the circle on the right has another circle underneath it. When working on this page, I realized that the top circle didn’t really pop on the page with the patterned paper underneath it. I solved the problem, by arranging another slightly larger circle underneath, that has a contrasting color. To keep things from getting too boring, though, I off-centered the bottom circle a little.

Secret Garden

I wanted to use a journal card for this layout for my journaling. While this kit had some pretty journal cards, it didn’t have any set aside for journaling. So I did a search for journal cards on my computer and came across this journal card. I used my magic wand to separate the lines into a layer and again to separate the bracket shape. I then placed various papers from the kit onto the card and sized them to fit the card (they’ll come in small). I made a layer mask to erase the dark areas that came in with the lines and saved the element as a PNG file.

My daughter and a couple of her friends were asked to help an aspiring photographer create some photos for his website. I got these photos off Facebook (with his permission) and because the resolution isn’t great, I kept them small. A few must’ve been uploaded on a higher resolution because I found one I could enlarge. And it worked perfectly for my big photo!

As a memorial page to my grandfather, I wanted to keep it clean and simple. I originally only had 3 papers – the green pattern and the two green solids. It didn’t feel quite complete, so rather than adding more embellishments, I added some more paper – adding to the background rather than the foreground, so as to not distract from the subject.

When working with papers, contrast can make a big difference on your layout. You create contrast by alternating bright with dark colors, and by switching between solid and patterned papers.

Favorite Things

Welcome to a new month and our ONE HUNDREDTH Digi Files!

Our first kit for this month is a happy and joyful kit representing some of our favorite things. Camping, coffee, and really cute cards. This happy and colorful papers and elements re perfect for scrapping all of your favorite things!

Simple beauty at its best. When using a busy patterned paper like this fun polka dot paper, it’s best to keep the rest of the layout simple in order to not make the page too busy. Trina did a great job balancing busy and beautiful!

I wanted to use the colorful word art on the journal cards for my title so in PSE I used the Magic Eraser to erase the background. Without the white border they don’t overwhelm the page.

There is so much inspiration out there. This year I am trying to focus on expanding my digi style and moving away from my template comfort zone. I found a page I loved in my favorite scrap gallery and scrap lifted for this awesome take on a favorite Disney photo.

Even though this started out as a Lukas page, I wanted to tell Bryson’s version of the story. I decided to make the right side of my page a couple of different ways. For the Lukas double page layout, I have a big copy of the upper left-hand picture shown here and a different picture on the right page. I told a slightly different story for Lukas. For the family page, I repeated that cute picture of Lukas and told the fun story of the math game. I’ll print all three pages next time I print. Two birds. One stone.

I love the the great balance of vertical and horizontal lines paired with white space. The title, journaling, photo, and elements are all vertical spaces creating one beautiful horizontal stripe across her page. The end result is stunning!
