Gratitude Journal {week 44}

On Sundays this year at The Daily Digi, we are going to be sharing a FREE weekly gratitude journal spread.

These pages are a place for you to record little memories you don’t want to forget, little reasons to be grateful. Each week their will be a gratefulness quote as well as a few photo spots.

You can use these FREE pages in a number of ways:

1) As digital scrapbooking templates. The download will always include .psd files for both 2-page 12×12 spreads as well as 2-page 8.5×11 spreads. You can add your own papers and elements and scrap ’till your heart’s content! (This is also a good option for those of you who get twitchy because I started the week with Friday. Since January 1 is a Friday, I like to start each week that way, but you may not! Feel free to adjust as needed!

2) As a digital journal. Keep the colors and text just as they are. Simply flatten the layers and add your notes of gratitude. Easy peasy!

3) As printed pages. Print out and write on them the good old-fashioned way. There is a .pdf file included for printing two letter-sized pages. Print your photos and attach!

If you have missed previous weeks, grab them HERE.

If you have used the templates or print-outs, we’d LOVE to see them! Share a link in the comments or EMAIL ME . We just might feature your page!

Last Minute Fall Party Ideas

Our family, along with my aunt and uncle, are getting together this weekend for a fall party. The thing is, we have been so busy around here that I have had ZERO time to plan. And now I have about 24 hours.

Thankfully, Pinterest came to the rescue once again, and I was able to find some cute (but SUPER easy!) ideas for our fall party. Perhaps I am not the only one who isn’t organized and could use a few last minute ideas.

Five Fabulous New Features of Photoshop Elements 15 Scrapbookers will Love!

I’m super excited to share the new features of Photoshop Elements 15, and there’s a long list of new and improved features. I cherry-picked my favourite features that I think scrapbookers will love.

For users of Photoshop CS or CC you’ll be excited to hear that a few features have been brought over from the big sister program. There’s also new and exclusive features for PSE users.

1 Layer Groups

You can finally edit and create groups of layers in PSE. Select several layers then press
Ctrl+G (Mac: Cmd+G) to create a group.

With groups you can:

  • Move layers in groups all at once (as you would for linked layers).
  • Collapse groups (so you don’t need to see all the embellishment layers in the layers panel, for instance)
  • Apply styles to the group and clear them from the group. This is very handy for adding consistent styles to everything in the group.

Due to adding groups, the Scrapper’s Best Friend – aka clipping mask shortcut has been changed. Ctrl+Alt+G (Cmd+Alt+G) is now the shortcut for creating a clipping mask.

2 Smart Object Options

pse15-smart-objects

Smart Objects are a controversial topic in Photoshop Elements. I love them but not everyone does!

Smart Objects are handy for resizing layers without losing pixel data. I teach with Smart Objects and recommend them.

The main reason people came to dislike Smart Objects was that with the initial implementation when you rotated a transparent Smart Object (eg a PNG) after it had been saved, closed and reopened it would have a white background. All scrappers were frustrated with this. Inconsistencies with Smart Object layer names and
drag/drop inconsistencies were also annoying.

Now, in PSE15, we have an option to turn Smart Objects on or off!

3 Adjust Facial Features

adjust-facial-features-pse-15-editor-review-time-0_24_4823

New and exclusive to Photoshop Elements is the option to adjust facial features under the
Enhance menu.

A boon for everyone who take photos of children and teens, you can now add a smile to their dial!

Take an in depth look at all the new features in the Photoshop Elements 15 Editor with my video review.

4 Multi-Image Instant Fix

Don’t miss the exciting new features that will have you using the Photoshop Elements Organizer more than ever!

There's so much good news for Organizer users in Photoshop Elements 15 that I needed a whole post to share the exciting new features! #digiscrap #scrapbooking

Organizer has had some instant fix features for a few versions, but with Photoshop Elements 15 you can now apply changes to a group of photos at once. It’s no Lightroom, but it’s much quicker and easier than opening each photo in PSE.

5 Revamped Search Feature

There’s a completely new search feature that gives you quick access to your people, places, events plus automatically adding tags.

I used this to quickly find a photo of Emily with a kangaroo. I’ve never even added the tag kangaroo to my library!

[BONUS] Mac Users Get Watch Folders

After many years, Mac users now can get all the benefits of automation in Organizer! Woohoo!! I’m super excited about this for the Apple scrappers out there!

Organizer can monitor new files that you’ve just unzipped, or imported into the Organizer ready for you to tag. You can either import your photos with Adobe’s Photo Downloader directly or have it watch your folders for new photos. If you go digi shopping regularly or you’re a member of the Digi Files, you can have your new supplies come into Organizer automatically. A great feature of Organizer is that you can have your photo folders or supply folders constantly monitored and imported.

You can see more of the new features in my review video.

What features are you most excited about in PSE15?

I have many fun projects at the moment, but when there is time I always love to make more of the Selfie Portraits as this one. I wanted to make 30 portraits in 30 days, but I was a litte optimistic about how much time I had for it. So now I have slowed it down and every now and then I make a new selfie and from that a new digital portrait. In this one you can easily see the collection I used for it. It’s called breakfast in America. If you want to see and red more about it, it’s all on my website at
www.bernadatema.com

and if you go to the tab Illustrations, you can see them all at the same time.

DesignerLO

started

I started scrapbooking in 2005 and made a few paper albums before I realized that I could design them myself, these papers and elements. I am a pattern an art work designer and in fashion I did the same for years. I bought Photoshop and learned quickly how to design with the program. It was easy for me, because I already worked with programs that were a lot mor complicated. I made my first scrapbook collection a year after I started with paper scrapbooking and I loved to do it. My children were still young and I became a SAHM and digital scrapbook designer.

inspired

Common things, daily life, pets, food, house, garden, traveling, flowers, birds, lands, folks, it can be everything. I am also very inspired by old arts and crafts. I go to the museum. Any museum will do, but my all time favorite is the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam with the old masterpieces made in the Golden Age. I especially like that museum for their ability to show stuff in temporary exhibitions like fashion or food or just a specific artist. It never stops inspiring me. I also love to be inspired in bookshops and in magazines for living and houses.

tools

Computer: I have a Windows PC and and Adobe Creative Suite subscription which I totally love. My PC is custom made and I choose for a RAM memory of 8GB and 64 bits processor, because I want to work with every program opened at the same time. I really don’t know how the PC works, but I knew what I wanted nd needed and asked for the best options at that time. Now I have this PC 3 years and I still enjoy it very much. I only close Facebook and Instagram while working, but that is because I am distracted easily, LOL.

My biggest treasure however is my Wacom Cintiq, that makes it possible to do more with my drawings and paintings. I can work very precisely with it and it’s very direct and is like a big iPad where I work on with a pen.

My biggest wish is a Cintiq Companion, so I can design in the woods, in the city, in the Zoo or in my favorite coffe shop.

Program: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.

I use Wix for my website because it is easier and I use MailChimp for my newsletters.

Camera: I dont’ have a camera anymore. It broke, but since I don’t scrap much myself, my Huawei P8 does enough for me. I nearly never distract stuff for my collections, I paint and draw instead. So I don’t need a camera for my designs. Still I think about buying one in the future.

Anything Else: Yes, that’s my iPad on which I sketch with Adobe. It’s fun when I am away from home. I just sketch with my fingers and send it to my PC when I’m finished.

tipstricks

Not aIl my collections contain quick pages, but when I make them, I always like to make double quick pages of 24 x12″. By combining two of the same backgrounds, mirrored and one single paper in a different pattern to cover the middle of this spread, I sometimes even succeed to make it possible to use it also in a reversed way where left and right can be changed. If you have backgrounds and you want to make an album, this is a simple way to do a lot with your papers and make it into a perfectly matching album.

favorite

It’s hard to think about what my own favorite product is, because I made them all and they become like my children. But I decided to choose for We Travel, because it’s so typical me: I love traveling and the colors are bright and the items are all hand drawn like I do that. I must say, the collection Coming Home is also my favorite, because I just made it and it has the feel and the warmth that I love and it’s got one of my favorite topics in it: home decor.

popular

I think that it works. That people indeed buy your joy. I think it shows when someone designs just what they really like to design. I came up with We Travel as my favorite collection and guess what? It’s the bestseller of the year!

Quick and Easy Layout Idea

I’m back today with another quick and easy layout idea. With my scrapping time limited right now, I am always on the lookout for quick ways to record our memories. I especially want to remember the little things such as the ages and stages of my kids. I know all too well that the sweet little things they do and say now will change in the blink of an eye. I also know all too well how easily I forget these little things. Life goes on and I forget.

A few weeks ago I went hiking with my husband and two of our kids. At the end of the hike, we stopped to rest at this brick wall. The kids were having fun posing against it.

I decided to take a few of my daughter alone. She is growing up so fast and as a middle child, she can sometimes get lost in the shuffle. I wanted to take a few minutes to make sure I focused on her.

After I edited the photos, I realized I had the opportunity for a super-simple layout that would capture all the little eight-year-old things about my sweet girl. I simply used the brick in the background for a canvas to write words or phrases that describe who she is right now.

The layout took me no more that five minutes and yet I saved such an important moment in her life. I want to take all the kids back and do this for everyone!

Fall, Templates, and Classes, Oh My!

We have some super fun stuff to share with you this week, including some awesome classes!
