Desperate Housewife

Apparently Missy has been peeking in my house windows. If she hasn’t been, then she must just see me in her crystal ball. Desperate Housewife, her kit for this month’s Digi Files, has me pegged. With words such as “I loved those 30 seconds when the laundry’s all caught up!” and “My house was clean yesterday; sorry you missed it!” I know I could created a few {cough, cough, hundred} pages with this kit. Someday I’ll get my house cleaning together. Until then, I’ll just scrap about it

This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of
The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! All of that, including access to exclusive collaborations every four months you are a member, for only $7.50 total per month! Here are some layouts created using Scraps by Missy’s contribution:

Hi! My name is Missy and I’m from a town outside Detroit, Michigan. I have been married for almost 18 years and I have three beautiful children. Justin-17, Cameron-13 and Abigail-12. I’m a stay-at-home mom who has plenty of time to scrapbook and design during the day when the kiddos are at school and I love it! When they come home it’s off to karate, soccer, baseball and softball! I also enjoy reading, playing on my Xbox One and spending time with family.

I love this layout because it’s one of the first 12×12 layouts I ever made. (Can you tell? LOL) I look back on it and see what a beautiful layout with very few elements. Sometimes less is more. I LOVED Studio Flergs older kits that were very grungy. I had them all but unfortunately had a hard drive failure and lost most of them. I hope one day she brings those back!

My start in designing is really a rather funny one. I began scrapbooking actually on my iPhone around 2011…lol! I purchased an app that allowed me to scrapbook on the go and I was OBSESSED! I did it every extra second I had. I was completely oblivious to the online digital community at that point. I then became involved with the company who made the app. Helping with their blog and answering customer questions (because I was such an expert haha). Through that I became aware of designers who were had online store. I would look in their galleries and wonder “how in the heck do I make layouts on a computer?”. So I purchased a few kits and after some extensive Google searching I was on my way to making layouts. Lucky for me my husband had a copy of Photoshop CS3 laying around from his computer science courses, so I was able to load it up and use it! Once I figured out how everything worked, which took SEVERAL weeks, I was able to do just about anything. Google and YouTube became my best buds 🙂

After about six to eight months of collecting many, many kits, I decided I would try and make my own kit. I did just that, and it looked awful! I still have it today to compare how far I’ve come. I’ve since upgraded all my software and my kits seem to be a hit! I’m loving every minute of my designing and expanding my knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator.

Everything really inspires me to create. My husband, children, family and sometimes a photo with beautiful colors. I think about what I would love to see in a kit, or colors I would like in a kit and go from there. If I wouldn’t use it, then I don’t make it!

Computer: I have a Dell XPS Desktop, Intel Core i7 with 1TB Hard Drive. I also have a Dell Alienware laptop which I used most because of mobility (not to mention super fast!).

Program: Photoshop CC 2015
Illustrator CC 2015
On my apple products I use almost all of the Adobe apps as well as an app called Graphic that allows you to create vectors. Anything I create I upload to my Creative Cloud library and open up in PS or Illustrator. Truly amazing what I can do straight from my phone!

Camera: Canon EOS Rebel T4i Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm and 24/105 lenses.

Anything Else: Wacom Intous Pro which I rarely use. With my iPad on had, there’s really no need.
I also use all of my Apple products for drawing on the go, iPad Pro with Apple Pencil, iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 6S plus.

Get organized. Decide how you want to save your scrapbooking supplies, either by designer, item (I.e. fasteners, papers, etc.) or both. Take time out to organize them into folders, it’s a timely process but you’ll be thanking me when you’re done 🙂 As you’re organizing, tag them with a few descriptive words. Say you have a kit about vacationing, tag your folder with travel and vacation. Be as descriptive as you can, it will only help you when you search. If you’re organizing by items, tag with colors. So if you’re working on a layout and you need a red bow, you go to your “bows” folder, search “red” and all of your red bows will come up. It saves you SO much time! I used to spend forever looking for the perfect kit, I don’t have to worry about that anymore because I have organized all of mine. I have mine organized by designer and items, on two different external hard drives. With hundreds of kits (and growing every day), I can’t imagine having to search through them anymore. Good luck!

I couldn’t pick just one of my products to love, but my newest release is beautiful. I just love deep reds and blacks in this one. My husband spoils me with gifts, flowers and other things. He said to me over Valentine’s day that I was spoiled rotten, and so this kit was born.

Everyone still seems to love this Just the Way You Are kit. It’s so versatile and the colors are just beautiful. I’m thinking of doing another kit with the same palette to coordinate with it.
