Vicki Stegall is the proud owner of Vicki opened Oscraps 9 years ago when she made the transition from a traditional paper scrapbooking to digi scrapping. While Vicki is and always will be a designer at heart, the responsibilities of running a major digi site don’t leave her as much time for designing as she’d like. She’s a born and bred ‘Okie’ living in Moore, Oklahoma and really does say, “y’all” all.the.time. She lives with her IT hubby, Anthony and her 15 year old son, Alyx, who is also her primary scrap subject. Someone recently described her design style as Vintage Grunge and she thinks that suits her just fine.

I did this layout for a designer spotlight challenge at Oscraps. The challenge was to go wild and pile stuff on a page. I did struggle with this and ended up piling it on but still keeping it clean and simple. What I loved about this was how the challenge and the act of being free with it all ended up inspiring my journaling.

I got started paper scrapbooking when my son was born. Before I became a stay at home mom I was very career oriented and didn’t really know what to do with myself at home. One of the ladies from our childbirth class ended up living less than a mile from us and she invited me over for a scrapbooking party. I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into but went anyway. Wow, am I glad I did! We started spending most every day together scrapping and crafting while our munchkins played together. One day she called me up and asked if I’d ever heard of digital scrapbooking. I never had, but as she put it, I was better at computers than her so could I check into it. From that day on, I was hooked! At that time, there just wasn’t very much out there. So, I started making my own designs, then sharing them and eventually opened the shop at Oscraps.

Anything and everything! I really enjoy “found objects” and that’s frequently what I start with. The kits just evolve from that. Being the owner of a large shop, I tend to get caught up in the actual running of the shop – background site issues, customer service, etc. so I don’t have as much time for designing (and/or scrapping), so deadlines and commitments continue to be my biggest inspiration at the moment. That’s one of the things I love most about the 52 Inspirations subscription. It keeps me designing twice (or more) a month!

Computer: Macbook Pro laptop, dual monitors and a cintiq graphics tablet.

Program: Photoshop CS6

Camera: Everyday camera – my iPhone 4s My “good” camera (which I don’t know how to use very well) – Canon EOS 5D

Anything Else: iPad 2, Kindle 1 & 2, and Nook Color (I like gadgets). My favorite is my Kindle. I use it to listen to my books via the “text-to-speech” feature. It takes some getting used to, but I love listening to books while I do extractions and laundry 🙂

To check out the different effects of blend modes quickly and easily, hold down the shift key and press the + or – keys to cycle through the different layer blend modes. This works best with the “move” tool as your active tool – if your active tool is a brush or similar, this won’t work because it will cycle through the blend modes of the active tool rather than in the layers palette.

I loved everything about this bundle – the soothing colors, the creative outlet of the mixed media papers, the traditional touches and experimenting with something relatively new to me – full size page blend masks.

52 Inspirations is a yearly subscription project that I do with Sue Cummings. We’ve been doing it since 2008 and we have members who have been with us since day one. Sue or I release a mini kit or element/paper pack each week for a year. It’s continually changing and continues to inspire me every week even after all these years. And, it’s a ridiculously great deal for our customers!
