Fun. Playful. Unique. Creative. Inspiring. Amazing. Those are all words I would use to describe Jacque Larsen’s designs. Jacque is a pillar in the scrapbooking community and her hand-drawn paper pieces are well-know and well-loved. Her little people with the blush stained cheeks are just so adorable! We’re so happy to have Jacque back with us this month and her designs have inspired us once again! Let’s take a good look at her sweet pack included in The Digi Files, “Kiss the Cook.”

My name is Jacque Larsen. I have been creating paper pieces and making them digital since June of 2007. I live in beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico and have 4 awesome children. My oldest daughter is a Freshman in College and my Youngest daughter is 10. We have two teenage boys between the girls who spend their time outdoors BMX biking and skateboarding. We have the best pet that resides in our home. A Lionhead rabbit named Nala. My husband is an amazing Architect at a local firm and is the most supportive man I know. We are a pretty lucky bunch.
From October thru December is my most FAVORITE time of year. The weather the holidays and ahhhhhhhhhh the baking!! Cooking is NOT my favorite but baking and sweets?! I can NOT live without. I decided to create some adorable little cooks/bakers. I absolutely LOVE the way they’ve turned out!
I have been scrapbooking pretty much since my freshman year of college. My roommate’s aunt owned a major stamping company based out of Kanab, Utah which was just a short distance from where we lived and were going to school. I’ve always loved to take pictures so adding stamps to my sorry scrapbooks really spruced them up quite a bit. I stuck to paper or traditional scrapbooks for a very long while. I refused to even use a digital camera until 2005 when my 4th and last child was a year old. Soon after I created my first digital page. It took over 8 hours. I swore I’d never do THAT again!! But it was too late, I was hooked. So after 21 traditional albums and 15 years of paper scrapbooking I went completely digital. 2 years later I started designing my own products.
In college I studied Early Child Development. My preschool students and my own children have always been my inspiration. I love bright colors, simple shapes and storybook creatures. Looking through my store you will notice a nursery rhyme trend in my designs.
Computer: My husband is my tech guy. He keeps me up and running top notch. He just updated my computer to make things run a lot faster. Don’t ask me what though, because I have NO idea. Something about a Solid State Drive and extra RAM. For at least 5 years I have been creating on dual screens. I use PC with the most recent PSCS. Learning new things is hard for me or I am just lazy. So I just keep doing my thin and
Program: The most recent Photo Shop Creative Suites.
Camera: I just bought a new camera. I’m a canon girl and updated from the 30D to the 70D. I haven’t found a lens that I absolutely love just yet so I’m still using my trusty 50mm 1.8 that never fails me.
Anything Else: No tablet, no fancy gadgets. Just very tiny fiskar scissors, Strathmore 140lb. Watercolor paper and every color of acryilc paint imaginable.
I have been designing for a little over 7 years. There really isn’t much that has changed in my routine. I always start with doodling my designs in a sketch book, selecting paints and painting on watercolor paper. Then hours and hours sitting on the floor cutting pieces out and gluing them together. Scanning and extracting. However, about 2 years ago a designer friend introduced me to the Pen Tool in Photo Shop…. LIFE CHANGING!!!!
My favorite product changes month to month. Pretty much every time I try a new paint or water color technique or remember about a new favorite fairy tale or nursery rhyme. However, I just started creating a series of Art Journal type papers. The set I created for the November BYOC pretty much rocks my socks off.
My most popular product changes along with my style and paper pieces released. This time of year for at least the last 3 years Jesse Tree is my most popular product. I love this for many reasons. This product is a type of build your own ornament set. Families, TOGETHER, can create the ornaments then every night through the month of December can spend that time reading scriptures and reflecting on the Life of Jesus Christ. It is inspiring to see so many families with a strong desire to keep their holidays, their scrapbooks and their memories meaningful. That’s why I love my job.
