You + Me = We

Ahhh..Shawna. After five years at Sweet Shoppe Designs, I have a soft spot for my SSD gals. Shawna did something amazing for me: she made me love boy kits. Seriously, Shawna rocks the boy kit like no other. My scrapbook albums are full of Shawna’s kits. With three boys to scrap, she is my go-to source. But it isn’t just boy kits that she does, she has a plethora of other amazing designs. I love that her color choices and fun elements keep my options open for what I want to use a kit for. Shawn’s contribution to The Digi Files is no exception. Let’s take a closer look at “You + Me = We” (and let’s commence swooning over that wood alpha!)

This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of
The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! All of that, including access to exclusive collaborations every four months you are a member, for only $7.50 total per month! Here are some layouts created using Shawna Clingerman’s contribution:

I am mom to 4 school aged boys and wife to the greatest guy ever. We live in Vancouver, Washington in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and I couldn’t love it here more!

The boys have been so cute about taking selfies with me and I love this one with my 2nd and my 4th. Owen’s face in the background is classic!! I love being the mom to 4 fun and silly boys!

I’ve been a life long crafter and pretty much have been cutting and pasting things since I could hold scissors! I got my start as a digital designer in 2006 when I got my first Wacom and started drawing swirlies for my friends and to give away on my blog. It didn’t take long for me to take the step into designing full kits and I haven’t looked back since!

Basically emotions are my number 1 inspiration as a designer, I will be in a special moment with my kids, or see something adorable or fun and think “I HAVE to do a kit for that!” I rely a on pinterest a lot, and you will find me pinning word art and sentiments all the time that will turn into a starting point for a new kit.

Computer: I’m currently designing on a very tired Dell laptop that is several years old – I keep saving up to get a new one and then spending the $ on something else awesome! I am a windows girl through and through (no Mac for me!), and one of the thing I love about getting just simple no-frills laptops is that they are affordable enough to replace every few years. I Also rely heavily on my external monitor and I love having my preview open on one screen and my Photoshop working file open on the main screen. This year I also got a surface pro which I LOVE to use with Adobe Illustrator, that way I can draw on my lap on the couch (or at soccer practice for the kids!).

Program: I use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator almost exclusively for designing. Recently I also learned a little bit about Lightroom and I use it now to process my photos quickly and easily. What a difference it makes!

Camera: I have an outdated Cannon Rebel, but if I’m honest, 99% of my photos come from my Samsung Galaxy Phone. It does a great job and it is SO convenient!

Anything Else: My other favorite little secret is the Goodwill Outlet! Not an electronic, but I love going and sorting through bins and finding a little piece of ephemera or ribbon or something else unique and scan-able! So much fun!

Have fun with it! If you are waiting for all the conditions to be perfect and for the perfect idea/thought/inspiration sometimes I think you miss the opportunity to just make something and let your heart speak.Anyone sitting down and opening up Photoshop is an artist in their own right so give yourself some credit and just do what feels right!

One of my favorite recent kits is “Full Hearts.” I was inspired by a quote on pinterest that says “If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart,” and as a mom of 4 it really spoke to me! I think this kit perfectly captured the warm feelings of being surrounded by family and love that I was hoping to share.

As a mom of 4 boys, I’m sure you can imagine where this kit came from! I LOVE designing with navy blue lately and this bold, fun kit makes me very happy! My boy kits are some of my favorite to do and I think my customers have come to expect them from me.
