WELCOME BACK to Tangie Baxter! It’s always a delight to have Tangie join us in The Digi Files!! Tangie is such an inspiring and positive person and I really enjoy visiting with her; I always leave having had a super big “aha” moment. Tangie never fails to leave me a better artist than she found me! Tangie is well known for her mixed media and art journaling style. She creates amazing supplies for the digital memory keeper, digital art journaler, digital pocket scrappers, and digital collage artists alike. I’m sure that you will feel inspired after listening to her on the Digest:

live in the super sunny city of Mesa, Arizona with my talented hubby
who makes all the journals in our Etsy shop, my almost seventeen year
old daughter (how does this happen? they grow up so fast!), and a
succulent plant I haven’t managed to let whither away yet. I’m sort of
thinking I might need to start seeking out intervention for my addiction
to Instagram and sometimes you can find me lounging with an ice cold
Coke perusing Pinterest. I’m a collector of all things artsy and truly
love the thrill of the hunt at thrift stores!
At the beginning of this year I had this crazy idea that I would create a collage every single day. I went really good for about a month and then never finished it. Sometimes, goals are just too ambitious (with all I have going on and all the workshops I teach, it just wasn’t realistic), but I’m glad I at least dared to do it because I LOVE the collage pages I did, and I’m so grateful I have them now. I think it’s important to set some lofty expectations and dreams for ourselves, push ourselves in one direction or another at least for a time. What I learned from this experience/goal is that I what I was really trying to do was force myself to have some ME art time. Lesson noted, and I’m trying to do just that (but with a wider variety of mediums than a daily digital collage). I think it’s important we make sure we have time to be creative just for ourselves don’t you?

have been paper scrapping since I was about twelve or so! Then I got to
that stage of my life that I sort of lost interest in and became a
collector of scrapbooking supplies, but never did anything with them.
Then I came across art journaling in 2003 and fell in love but didn’t
make it a priority in my life until much later. In the spring of 2007 I
found out about DIGITAL scrapbooking. I can STILL picture me sitting
there with a silly grin on my face not believing what I was seeing! It
was love at first pixel and I knew it was for me. I immediately bought
Photoshop CS2 and cried myself through learning how to use it. I can
laugh about it now, but there weren’t many resources on how to use the
program for digital scrapbooking back then. By the fall of 2007, I
opened my own store and was determined to quit my day job! Somewhere in
the fall of 2009 I realized I could combine my love of art journaling
with digital and my life has never been the same since then! The last
SEVEN years have been some of the most amazing of my life and I’m so
grateful each and everyday that I was led down this path in my life and
I’m ecstatic for the future.
Oh the world is a magical place, I feel inspired all the time! I see fairies in the garden around my pool, conjure up magic spells when I talk with people I love, see color reflected off the prisms in my ring, soak up books and tall tales, feel the energy and vibration of the universe. I feel like a lucky girl all the time, I’m really, truly grateful for the creative vibe I’m connected to in the world around me. Pinterest is a great way for me to try and capture some of these ethereal thoughts and feelings into pictures to inspire me again later.
Computer: I’m still working with my same computer, it’s been a long road together so far! It’s an HP 570f, it has a AMD II 1090T 3.20GHZ processor; 16 GB of Ram and a 2TB hard drive with windows 7-64 bit. I also have two HP2711x LED 27 inch Monitors which I adore!
Program: I use Photoshop Creative Cloud, Artrage, 7zip and Renamer by Den4b
Camera: An iPHone 5! I have given up on trying to be a photographer (for now) and just enjoy my life through the lens of the camera phone that goes with me everywhere.
Anything Else: I’ve got three 2TB external hard drives (various brands) that still don’t seem like enough storage…
Do something different today! Walk a different route to the mailbox, brush your teeth with your left hand, write upside down, read a book from the back, try a new flavor lemonade, use a blue pen instead of black, say no, say yes, go out to eat, or stay in, eat a fruit you’ve never tried, blend up a green smoothie, use the color orange if you don’t like it, buy a balloon just for the fun of it. They key to not losing one’s creative vibe or getting to that “I’ve lost my mojo” stage is to not let yourself get in a rut of the same things day in and day out. I promise it works!
This product is absolutely, hands down one of my favorite new products I’ve EVER created! I worked on the idea for a very long time and was so excited to finally be able to release them. They are creativity cards that help you with your scrapbooking, art journaling or any other creative project you may need a jump start on. You simply print the cards, cut them up and start using them. They make me happy and I hope other crafters and artists have a fantastic time using them too!
The Art Journal Caravan is in it’s fifth and FINAL year! There is still time to join us as you have lifetime access to the classroom and materials. We have a wonderful community of art journalers who regularly participate in our classroom and share their work in our gallery. We’ve all come to understand that it’s not about doing “a page a week” but it’s about the process of art journaling itself that really matters. I put my heart and soul into the workshop and try to over deliver on what is promised. I hope people can feel that, and know that I am passionate about art journaling, it truly does change lives!
