Dream A Little Dream

It is always a joy to have Flergs join us in The Digi Files! Flergs has as big of a heart as she does creative abilities! She’s truly amazing! I LOVE LOVE all of the glitter Flergs includes in her kits (digital glitter is the best kind) I also adore the shabby, mixed media and whimsical style of Flergs designs! I’m Megan, better known as Flergs throughout digiland. I come from Australia, & live in a small country town. I have 3 kids, 11, 7 & almost 1 year old. I’m a full time Mum 24/7 & I design at night when the kiddies are asleep. LOVE TV and movies although I never get enough time to watch everything I wish I could. Being a digi designer is my ultimate dream job, & I LOVE it. Last November I made a huge change & moved to The Sweet Shoppe and I love it! The girls are all so friendly, motivating & supportive, and an amazing store ct too, it’s a great team to be a part of. My store is slowly filling up as I bring over many many years of products.

I loved the template by Cindy when I saw it, and needed an extra layout for my newsletter….so it was the perfect opportunity for me to so some scrapping! I rarely scrap pages anymore. I am more interested in designing. I wish I could find the time to make albums for each of my kids.

I was a paper scrapper and one day a friend heard me complaining about not having any time to scrap. She suggested digi but I said “blerg” thinking of stuff I’d seen before with neon colours and cheesy looking elements, etc. But, she linked me to a few sites including Sweet Shoppe and Shabby Princess. I downloaded a few freebies and was instantly hooked. “Download ALL the freebies!!” I started giving away blog freebies in 2007, mainly actions, and was asked to sell them. Then a few months into it, I tried my hand at designing actual kits. The rest is history!

I get inspired by everything around me. Usually one small thing will start off an entire kit. Pinterest is like crack, but I love catalogues too. Some kids clothing catalogues are a great source of colour inspiration and combinations.

Computer: hmmm I usually ask my hubby for the specs, but he’s not here so I’ll take a crack at answering this! Lots of drive space, I have 4 1TB hard drives & 2 1TB externals. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (is that even right?) 12 GB RAM, 2 AMD Radeon 6900 series graphics cards…and now I’m lost. It’s big, it’s ugly but it is nicknamed the Spaceship.

Program: I use Photoshop CS5 99.999% of the time. I’m trying to find time to do some Illustrator courses but am failing miserably.

Camera: An old Canon, I rarely use.

Anything Else: My canoscan scanner is about it.

Tricks, oldies but goodies I can’t live without are.

1. Clip thumbnail to layer bounds: see what you’re working on in PS easily.
2. Change it to Large thumbnails in PS to see your ellies more easily in the layers palette.
3. Large preview for fonts in PS (hmmm maybe I need glasses?)
4. Change your history state from 8 to like 200 in the preferences>Performance menu.
5. Know your shortcuts! ALT+Left+click to duplicate is the bomb!

I think all designers like their latest kits, but I really do love this one. The colours, the elements, and a paper inside that is the favourite paper I have ever made. And teaming up with Nicole who I have been friends with FOREVER! She’s been a friend since the very start of my career and being at SSD with her where we can scoop is AWESOME! I love every page I see with this one, and I just smile everytime I see it in my store.

This one was very popular. Lots of Sports Fans out there, sports Moms more like it. This one came about when my son started playing Soccer and of course I had to scrap about it when his photo got in the local newspaper. I am still in love with this one, and a lot of love & effort went into making it. It covers a lot of sports, and the papers are all courts & grounds like a baseball diamond, soccer field etc…
