Hi! My name is Missy and I’m from a town outside Detroit, Michigan. I have been married for almost 15 years with 3 beautiful children. Justin-14, Cameron-10 and Abigail-9. I’m a stay-at-home mom who has plenty of time to scrapbook and design during the day when the kiddos are at school and I love it! When they come home it’s off to karate, soccer, baseball and softball!
My children along with my nieces and nephews really inspired me for the kit Personality. They have SO much of it at such a young age. I did this layout of my niece Megan who lives in California and it reminded me of how fun and playful she is. I just love her and miss her everyday!
My start in designing is really a rather funny one. I began scrapbooking actually on my iPhone around 2011…lol! I purchased an app that allowed me to scrapbook on the go and I was OBSESSED! I did it every extra second I had. I was completely oblivious to the online digital community at that point. I then became involved with the company who made the app. Helping with their blog and answering customer questions (because I was such an expert haha). Through that I became aware of designers who were online. I would look in their stores and wonder “how in the heck do I make layouts on a computer?”. So I purchased a few kits and after some extensive Google searching I was on my way to making layouts. Lucky for me my husband had a copy of Photoshop CS3 he received in his computer science course from school many years ago, so I was able to load it up and use it! Once I figured out how everything worked, which took SEVERAL weeks, I was able to do just about anything. Google and YouTube became my best buds 🙂
After about 6 months of collecting many, many kits, I decided I would try and make my own kit. I did and it looked awful. I still have it today to compare how far I’ve come. I’ve since upgraded all my software and my kits seem to be a hit! I’m loving every minute of my designing and I love expanding my knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator.
Everything really inspires me to create. My husband, children, family. I look at something I would love to scrapbook with and work from there. If I wouldn’t use it, then I don’t make it.
Computer: I have a HP Pavillion g7 with 8bg RAM, 64 bit operating system with 1TB Memory using Windows 8
Program: Photoshop CC 64 bit, Illustrator CC bit
Camera: Canon EOS Rebel T4i Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens
Anything Else: I do have a Bamboo tablet I just bought a couple months ago but haven’t had much time to play with it yet, not sure of what the model number is.
My favorite time-saving Photoshop tip for designers is when creating an element/cluster use the shortcut ctl+alt+shift+e. This will create a layer with all layers merged for you to stroke and check stray pixels and jagged edged. No need to duplicate layers and merge, or save your .png then have to open it. Once you’ve checked that everything looks good, just delete that layer. I use this shortcut ALL the time and I know it will save you lots of time!
Giggles & Goosebumps was such a fun kit to make! I didn’t want to stop actually. I loved the colors and the theme couldn’t be more fun. I wanted to make the palette suitable for both male and female photos and I believe I accomplished that. Makes me want to do another one similar to it 🙂
My most popular product is one of my earliest products, Abby. Names after my beautiful daughter Abigail a.k.a. “Abby”. She loves Princesses and the color purple. She was the sole inspiration for this kit and helped me create and pick things out for it. She loves it as much as my customers do!
