It has been a very long time and I am thrilled to be welcoming back Amanda Heimann! Amanda is on of the designers that I discovered early on her design career and have followed and loved her since. I was very sad when she took a break from designing, feeling that void for a long time and was so excited when I found out she was coming back! I love Amanda’s signature plaid papers and her ability to combine color and patterns. Amanda can really rock kits that work well for boys too! Let’s take a closer look at “Party Rockers” that is included in The Digi Files this month:
This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. I started paper scrapbooking about 9 years ago when my son turned one. I did not get much done with a one year old around. Once my second came along a year later there was absolutely no scrapbooking happening! I needed to make a Christmas card and opened up Microsoft DIP and created my first digital project. I immediately became an exclusive digital scrapbooker. Never looked back!
Sometime in 2007 and I hit a creative slump and did not want to scrap layouts anymore. I still wanted to create but needed a different outlet. I tried designing on a whim and loved it! I have hit a few more slumps along the way and took a little time off to use my knowledge in another industry but I seem to always come back to digital designing. There is something about it that draws me in. No matter what else is going on in my life I know that if I sit down, turn on Spotify and open up Photoshop that everything will be alright in my world.
Music is my inspiration. My life revolves around music and there is always a song or rhythm in my head. Most of my kits were inspired by lyric in a song or a song title. The few times that music does not inspire me, I turn to Pinterest.
Computer: I have a 27in iMac with 12GB RAM. I also sometimes use our MacBook Pro when I am away from home or want to sit on the couch.
Program: Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CS6 are the main programs I use.
Camera: I have a Canon t3i that I need to learn how to use. I had a Canon xti for the longest time but she no longer works. It is funny how the same version of camera is so different 7 years later.
Anything Else: I use a Wacom Intuos 5 tablet.
Oh I don’t think I have any earth shattering tips but I can give you what I can’t live without. 1) Mini Bridge in PSCS6 is like a tiny little browser within Photoshop. When I have Photoshop, Illustrator, other plugins running it helps to have all my files right there. 2) Status Bar at the bottom left of your Photoshop window. If you click and hold on the status bar a bubble will pop up that gives you width, height, channels and resolution. This is really helpful for me when I am working with scanned images and going back and forth between different working windows. 3) Using the touch controls on my tablet and setting custom controls for frequently used commands.
Usually I do not like my own products when I am finished with them. I have had enough and am ready to move on. There is something about this kit that always makes me smile. This kit was inspired by my youngest son who was going through a phase of saying “awesome” all the time.
Being Mommy was inspired by my number one job. I came across the colors in a magazine and was wanted to create a kit with big florals. The rest just fell into place.
