ViVa Artistry: Sal de Mar

The story of how ViVa came to be is as inspiring as the designs they create (see below)! It’s so wonderful to hear about two strangers coming together through a passion for digital scrapbooking and creating such beautiful collections for us to document our memories with. Their designs are so artistic and truly unique. I love the beautiful blues and yellows in their contribution this month, which had me itching for summer for months, as they’ve been waiting for their debut here.  Let’s take a closer look at “Sal de Mar” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! All of that, including access to exclusive collaborations every four months you are a member, for only $7.50 total per month! Here are some layouts created using ViVa Artistry’s contribution:

ViVa Artistry is Vivienne and Vanessa (the first two letters of our names make up ViVa). Vanessa is from Florida. Vivienne is from California. We have worked together for five years now.

We met digitally about five years ago as CT members and teamed up for a couple of design projects and since then, have worked together as a team. We met finally for the first time last January and had a blast “working” together. It was very different to working over Skype or Messenger.

Vanessa is a graphics designer and has always been digital. She started digiscrapping as a way to preserve her memories and images for her children.

Vivienne is a traditional paper scrapper and crafter and switched to digital in 2007 when there were no scrapbook stores in Japan where she was living at the time.

Our designs are bridges between different styles, slightly grungy, slightly mixed media, always artistic as they are based on art images. We are inspired by the colors, ideas, and textures of the master painters! We are inspired by culture and heritage as we are also of different backgrounds. Vanessa is Brazilian by birth, living in Florida. Vivienne is Indonesian by birth, American from California and currently living in Denmark. Our premise is that our memories are important and should be preserved and we want to help you do that in a beautiful and artistic environment.

Vanessa: MacBook Pro, OSX 10.8
Vivienne: Toshiba Satellite Pro, Windows 7 Pro

Vanessa: Photoshop CS6, Illustrator CS6
Vivienne: Photoshop CS3, ArtRage, Inkscape

Vanessa: Canon PowerShot SX210 (point and shoot)
Vivienne: Nikon 3000D, 28-105 mm lens, 18-55 mm lens

Anything Else:
Vivienne: Wacom Bamboo Pen, Wacom Bamboo Create, Canoscan 5000F

Use brushes and textures to get the most out of your stash. Then, use your blend modes to make it your own. Layering them adds dimension and depth and makes it unique.

We love the lush look of Maserari. It’s mysterious and beautiful and artistic all at the same time. Vivienne had gone to Venice for a family summer holiday and snapped some images of the masks. After extracting them, we realized how amazing they looked and it was very exciting to create the kit around the masks. There was that “click” moment that we are usually looking for when we both “get it” and have the look and the feel of a kit. This one was just very quick and very sudden.

Our Les Saisons collection (there are two of them). There are a total of 4 kits, one for each season (summer, winter, spring, autumn). We were inspired by the Art Nouveau artist Mucha, who has a very distinctive look to his paintings. We created the kits around his 4 Seasons images and worked with each season seperately so as to have different color swatches that also worked together. These 4 kits flowed out of us as well, with many pieces coming together quickly. It’s always a pleasure when one of us can start with one thing and the other finishes it. We love it when we can do that!
