Fiddle Dee Dee Designs: A Place to Start

I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Cheryl of Fiddle Dee Dee Designs just over a year ago. She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met! She just beams with happiness and you can’t help but feel loved when you are with her! She is also an AMAZING template designer with a talent for creating lots of clusters and layers (something I can’t do without a template). It is an honor to have her back in The Digi Files again! Let’s take a closer look at “Fuss Free: Daily Goodness 2” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! All of that, including access to exclusive collaborations every four months you are a member, for only $7.50 total per month! Here are some layouts created using Fiddle-Dee-Dee Designs’s contribution:

My name is Cheryl Ashcraft and I’m a native Floridian living in Northwest Florida on the Gulf Coast. My husband Jay and I will celebrate our 20th anniversary in October this year, so we are in the middle of planning a anniversary trip to celebrate the occasion. We have two children ~ Olivia is sixteen and Daniel is seven. Like most scrappers that I know, I’m constantly taking pictures of them to document their lives. They are growing up so fast and even though I scrap quite a bit, I can never seem to catch up with them! I am a true homemaker, determined to work daily to make sure that my home is a haven. When I first starting designing digital scrapbooking templates, I worked part-time, but I invest almost full-time hours in my designing career now. So if I’m not cooking and cleaning, designing templates, or scrapbooking, most often you’ll find me curled up somewhere reading a book. I also pen sketch occasionally.

My husband and I will be celebrating our 20th year of marriage later this year, and when I saw this picture of the two of us from Christmas Eve, I wanted to express how happy I was to be able to share my life with him. Aside from loving the picture, I love all the washi tape on the page (yes, I have a bit of an obsession with washi tape ~ I blame my junque journal/smash book). I really love the effect I achieved on the washi tape up at the top corner with the string underneath. I used the Dodge and Burn tools to make the tape look as if the string was buckling it up. I followed a tutorial by Peppermint/One Little Bird, and I was so excited with how it turned out.

I started paper scrapbooking in 1996 when I was pregnant with my daughter Olivia and switched to digital scrapbooking in August 2007. I started converting my layouts to templates in February 2010 with a guest spot at The Digichick. I was asked to stay as a designer at the store and spent over a year there. I moved my storefront to Scrap Orchard in July 2011.

There’s just something in me that wants to create. Often that “thing” is sparked by seeing a photograph I’ve taken, by watching a movie, listening to music, reading a book, chatting with friends ~ almost anything can be the turning point where it becomes an idea for a template.

My biggest tip is that you should see templates as a place to start for placement of your papers, elements and photographs. Once you start putting photographs and elements on the page, you may find that your creativity pulls you in a different direction. Don’t let the template limit you. Relax and enjoy the process of creating. It doesn’t matter if the finished product looks nothing like the original template. The point is that the template allowed you to begin creating when sometimes a blank canvas can completely stifle creativity. So open those templates up and enjoy!

Fuss Free: Wishi Washi is my favorite product right now. I love my junque journal/smash book, and the washi tapes are just so fun! I do admit that when I create, I am drawn to excess, and this set is no exception. Loads of washi tape? Yes, please!

My most popular products are my Fuss Free: Masquerade series of templates. I started doing some paper scrapbooking and hybrid scrapbooking over the summer with a friend, and I adore glimmer mists. I knew immediately that I wanted to try for this same look on my digital pages, and that’s when I started creating the Fuss Free: Masquerade series. I think the templates are popular because the misted masks are easy to use and give the final layouts a handcrafted feel.
