Mye De Leon: Designed It For Them

I love the beautiful, bright colors Mye typically uses in her collections! My has always created beautiful, bold patterned papers that are so fun to create with! I love Mye’s designs and I’m so happy to welcome her back to The Digi Files this month.  Let’s take a closer look at “La Boheme” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

Hi! My name is Mye De Leon. I am from Manila, Philippines but currently living in Singapore. I’ve been married for over 7 years and have been blessed with twin daughters and a baby boy coming in a few months!

I have been designing digital scrapbook kits since 2009. Since then, my designs have pretty much evolved from being eclectic to shabby rustic. There are times though that I find myself creating in my old style. I love exploring and trying new things to help people in their memory keeping.

This is my best and most favorite layout of all. I was inspired by the happy emotions that my girls are displaying when my husband took that photo. I want to show to the world how proud I am for having them. I love how I did my clusters in this layout as well as the photo treatment.

One Heart, One Love layout; Supplies: One Heart Kit.

Scrapbooking was first introduced to me when I was in highschool, but I never really understood how things work back then so it did not progress. In 2007, I stumbled upon a colleague’s blog and saw her digital scrapbook layouts. I got fascinated and bugged her to teach me how to do it. That was my first encounter with Photoshop. I got addicted to digital scrapbooking and eventually got into traditional scrapbooking as well. However, the cost and clutter of traditional scrapping is something I can’t afford to have these days so I went back to digi and focused in it. In 2009, I started joining creative teams but there are things that you are looking for in kits that you just simply cannot find so I decided to try and do things on my own. I never knew it was even more addicting. My style has gradually changed and I am loving all my creations lately.

I am inspired by everything around me. I don’t limit myself to things in particular but any thing that catches my attention and stirs my curiosity becomes an inspiration.

Computer: Macbook Pro 15″
500 GB HDD and 2TB EHD
I was a solid PC user until my husband gifted me with this.
Program: Photoshop CS5 Extended
Adobe Lightroom 3
Camera: Our old Canon 1000D which we intend to upgrade pretty soon
Anything Else: CanoScan LiDE 700F
Wacom Pen and Touch
Don’t pressure yourself with all the many styles you see around. Recording and preserving those memories are the most important thing why we scrapbook so focus on your story instead of worrying about the fancy details of your page.

This is my go to kit. It’s a tea party theme in general but it can be used for just about any layout and when I am in the mood to scrap or when I am doing ads, I always come back to this. The colors are so rich and vibrant which I really love. What makes it more special is because I created this one together with the amazing Sugarplum Paperie!

This is by far my most popular kit. I’ve spent a couple of days creating this one, exploring the colors and eventually coming up with something that people love. I have long wanted to do a travel kit but because I don’t travel a lot, I could not bring myself to do it for a while. Then my team gave me all the inspiration I need, what they wanted to see in the kit and I just designed it for them. This is basically a team creation.

Capturing a major news event with a phone camera

I was astonished to find out that the cover photo on this week’s Time Magazine was shot with an iPhone using the Hipstamatic app. It just goes to prove the point that it’s not about the camera, but more about being there to capture the moment.

Time Magazine asked five photographers to document Sandy via Instagram. Their photos are available for viewing on the Time Lightbox blog. There is something powerful about viewing the pictures in a simple way like this.

This article on does a great job of explaining why Time went with a phone photo in this situation. In short, it was about getting the coverage they needed in the quickest and most direct route. Phone cameras are with people all the time and they are revolutionizing how we document our lives.

There are those who think a phone photo should not be used on the cover of a prominent magazine. There are others who think it’s the sign of more to come. No matter what your opinion is, it’s definitely a game-changer for the world of photojournalism.

For those of you who have been hit by the storm (or another natural catastrophe), how did you document it? Did you take photos? What kind of camera did you use?

Most importantly, we hope you are all safe and sound and able to get back to ordinary life sometime soon. We know we have many readers who have been affected and our thoughts are with you!

Happy Digital Scrapbook Day – a video

You might remember about a month ago, we asked for readers and members to send in videos telling us how much you love digital scrapbooking. The video above is what I put together from those videos. I LOVED watching these! I love that some of our team members were able to send in videos. I loved that SharonS was wearing her Daily Digi tshirt in the video. I thought Angie’s camera taking a picture of camera, taking a picture of her, was a fun touch. Each and every video was from the heart of the person who sent it!  See all of THESE videos and more on our YouTube channel.

We love our members for supporting us and making all of this possible each day! We are grateful for our readers that show up each day and read what we have to say. Smile We love the designers that continually support us and “get” what we are doing here! Without all of you, we wouldn’t be able to do what we love on a daily basis!

Happy Digital Scrapbook Day!

PS Be sure to scroll down and check out yesterday’s post for all of the Digital Scrapbook Day deals in digiland!

Help Me Welcome the Designers of TDF#47

November is my birthday month, but I’m giving our MEMBERS the gifts! This month we have EIGHT contributors!! EIGHT full size products from fabulous designers for only $7.50! It’s an UNBELIEVEABLE deal and the BEST deal in digital scrapbooking!  Here is a look at the designers for November 2012:

Mye De Leon

Dawn by Design

Michelle Godin Designs

Just Jaimee

Amber Shaw

Cindy Schneider

Sausan Designs

Scotty Girl Design

Why don’t we show what’s in the files at the beginning of the month? There are lots of reasons, but the biggest is that our members LOVE the surprise! They have come to trust our quality and they love downloading and unzipping before knowing what’s in there.

Here’s what our members said in the comments yesterday:

“I’ve been receiving the monthly kits for about 3 months and am so thrilled with them!  What a great deal they are!  They help me scrap some of the latest trends and I can always count on classy, quality kits.  I’m so glad I found this deal–I’ve been telling all my digi friends about it.  Can’t wait for tomorrow when the new downloads come out!” – Wendella247

“Gosh I feel like a broken record saying this – every months kits become my new fave!  I followed the site for quite a while before subscribing earlier this year and am so so glad I did.  Don’t know why I waited so long!” – Theresa

“As always, my favorite part of the month is what’s become known as “Daily Digi Day”. This is the first day of the month when I get up early, download and organize my goodies, and start planning my layouts. Sometimes I think, “How in the world am I going to use that kit?”. Typically “that kit” is the base for my favorite layout of the month because it made me think outside the box! Happy Halloween and see you in the am. Early!” – SharonS

Here are the SEVEN random winners selected from yesterday’s comments, each person won $10 in product from one of last month’s designers: willimena (Heather Roselli), Jen L (Kitschy Digitals), Bernadette (Bella Gypsy), Bev Mascara (Megan Turnidge), ANGEL (Ya Yeah Designs), Lara Read (Scrappy Creations by Melanie), Michelle T (Studio Flergs)
