Amber Shaw: Smelling Good

Katie emailed me a link to Amber’s store and said I HAD to check out this designer! Katie knows me well and knew I would fall in love instantly and I did! I love the shabby, fun style of Amber’s designs! She creates beautifully cohesive collections through her theming and colors. I truly am a fan and so happy to welcome Amber to The Digi Files for the first time!!  Let’s take a closer look at “Warmth of a Family” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! All of that, including access to exclusive collaborations every four months you are a member, for only $7.50 total per month! Here are some layouts created using Amber Shaw’s contribution:

I am a 37 year old wife and mother of 4. My children are ages 7, 11, 13, and 18. I have 2 wonderful boy and 2 amazing girls and super cute “bugg” named Mr. Biggs. My wonderful husband of almost 16 years, my best friend and the one who makes me really laugh. Being creative in many areas is what is enjoyable for me, including sewing and crafting. Having created many perfumes, I love playing with fragrance combinations to come up something unique. Other things I enjoy are taking photos of my family, friends, or just a beautiful sunset (and Mr. Biggs!), cooking, reading, and writing.

I have been “saving” this photo of my son to scrap with just the right kit. When creating Warmth of a Family for The Daily Digi, I knew it time to finally create a layout. I manipulated the photo making it black and white with a slightly chocolate tint. I love the photo so much that i wanted it to be large, I love his little curious face, pouty lip and little hands.

DesignerLOSupplies: Warmth of a Family by Amber Shaw.

I have small line of handcrafted perfumes that I supply to spas and salons. In my pursuit back in 2009 to find classier labeling options, even if I had to learn more about photoshop – then I would. In my search, I stumbled upon digital scrapbooking and I was hooked! After about months of scrapping, I started to give freebies. Not too long after, I was offered a spot at a small but effective store. As my skills grew, I became more and more addicted! So, here I am today still designing, always learning, and I did end up designing new labels for my products LOL so I am always smelling good!

Many things make me jump with inspiration. Other than the obvious happenings of my family and creating kits around our special moments, I am very drawn to beautiful color palettes. I also gain quite a bit of inspiration from my creative team, they are always helping me with requests & ideas in brainstorming threads that are in our team forum. Those girls make designing easy with all of their great suggestions!

Computer: I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 and a 2TB EHD. I would LOVE 2 monitors and a bigger desk though!
Program: I use Photoshop and Illustrator CS5, as well as some filter forge, eye candy, and art rage.
Camera: I have a Fuji S1500 bridge camera
Anything Else: I do have a Bamboo pen and touch. I LOVE my tablet and can’t imagine design without it!
One of the shortcuts I learned early on was saving frequently used styles. Everybody has their “go to” styles. For me those are some of my own custom shadows, kraft textures, plastics, etc. I am a style collector and I make them mostly for my use in designing a kit. Another thing I like to do is open up my favorite styles (let’s say metal styles by 5 different designers), if I like only 1 of each style in their style set, I will use the Preset Manager to save only the ones from each set, renaming them “My Favorite Metals” This way I don’t have to dig through all my metal styles or load several sets to find just 2 or 3 of my favorites! I often break up my styles in this manner or make new sets of random styles that are my favorite.

Lady P is my favorite product right now. It was inspired by my grandmother, Peggy. She was truly a classy lady, with a big heart and absolutely full of grace. She passed at 86 years old, the day after my birthday this past February. Soon after, I created this kit in her honor. I used purple as the main color, because it was her favorite. I then added in soft colors that reminded me of some of the flowers she loved and “raised”. This kit is also special because the word strips describe her character completely.

My most popular product to date are the boy and girl versions equally of a fairly new product, Birthday Bash. It was originally created for Pickleberry Pop’s Birthday Celebration as a Lolly Bag/Grab bag… it sold like hotcakes during that promo and the collection continues to outsell most of my kits!
