Heather Roselli Designs: My Dream Gig

It’s been over two years since Heather Roselli joined us in The Digi Files. I’m so excited to welcome her back with us once again! Heather has a great scrappy style that mixes patterns and colors very well. Her papers are easy to use together and her kits come full of lots of fun elements to choose from!  Heather’s great sense of colors shines in each and every kit! Let’s take a closer look at “Miles of Smiles” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. Since Liam started playing baseball a few years ago I’ve been impressed with his performance. I was feeling really bad this spring/summer that we couldn’t get him on a team due to not knowing where we were moving after our rental lease was over. So when I created the Runs Batted In kit, I felt the pull to scrap as many of the pictures I could from his last season. I ended up doing three pages, an overview (shown here), one about him as pitcher and one about his favorite position of catcher.

I began scrapbooking in January 2002 after my first child was born in order to share his new life with my Mom and Dad since they lived so far away. I soon became frustrated with having pictures the wrong size for what I wanted to do. I started laying out my page spreads on the computer so I could crop the photos the way I wanted to before ordering my digital prints. Somehow while doing that I stumbled across digital scrapbooking and realized that was what I had been doing, except I was then translating my digital layouts to paper ones. I put up all my paper supplies and immediately started creating digital pages!
Within just a few weeks I started designing my own kits based on the colors and patterns in my children’s clothes, not with the intent to sell them, but just to use for myself. Soon I had 10 kits on my hard drive! Turned out that I loved designing! I was incredibly lucky to be involved with The Digi Chick forums at that time and was accepted as a designer there in the Fall of 2005. In July of 2007 I moved to my dream gig at Sweet Shoppe Designs and absolutely love it there! What a wonderful group of designers, staff members and community members we have there!

When I’m not designing (is there a time when I’m not??), I spend time with my three sons (10 years old and 7 year-old twins) and husband of over 13 years in Seattle, WA. My oldest is in 5th grade and the twins are in 2nd grade. When not in school we attend Cub Scout meetings and baseball and basketball practices and games. Since moving to the Seattle area last year, we are still taking trips around the area seeing all the sites that are new to us.

inspiredMy kids and their activities and interests, my team’s ideas, forum and customers’ ideas, the seasons, different websites…everything! hehe

Computer: I work on a 17″ HP Pavilion Entertainment PC laptop running Windows 7 hooked up to an external 21″ Dell monitor. The laptop has 8GB of RAM and handles all my programs really well, even after 2 years of constant use.
Program: By the time this is read I will be using Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator CS6, however, my kit Miles of Smiles, was created using Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator CS3. I also use several filter/texture plug-ins on occasion.
Camera: I have just a Nikon Coolpix S10 point and shoot, but my dh has a professional Cannon 1DS that is on “permanent borrow” from a friend of his that loves photography and buys every new camera that comes out! My husband’s photos are the ones I really love scrapping these days.
Anything Else: I have a wireless Wacom tablet that I use when at my desk. I use the mouse and the pen with it when I am working. I occasionally “sink” to using the trackpad when not at my desk. hehe

We sometimes try to create for others…and it often times just doesn’t work (in layouts and in kits). I always tell my team to scrap what they want to in the style that they love…because the layouts they love will almost always be their greatest work. I truly believe this. Do what you love, love what you do…and your family will love you and your efforts to preserve your family’s memories.

favoriteLove Monkey is probably my favorite kit recently. I like to make Valentine’s Day type kits that aren’t too girly and that can also be used for general pages about our loved ones. Love Monkey has the additional benefit of being perfect for sock monkey photos as well!

Teacher’s Pet, a school-themed kit that I created with Tracey Howard, has been my most popular product for over a year now. We choose the obvious primary colors for a preschool through elementary school theme. I think the bright colors and unique, cute graphics we drew appealed to most scrappers with children in school.
