Laura Banasiak: Life-long Friends

It’s always super fun to meet designers in person and in real life. I got to meet Laura at Digiscrapapalooza this past spring. It was great to get to visit with her a bit here and there during the weekend!  Laura’s zest for life comes through in her vibrant designs. I would describe them as whimsically happy-go-lucky, just like Laura! Her doodles are definitely a signature touch to each of her products! Welcome back to The Digi Files, Laura, we are happy to have you! Let’s take a closer look at “Little Pretties” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

This is ONE of SEVEN collections you get when you become a member of The Digi Game this month. You also get an interactive Playbook (in PDF and iBooks formats) that has lots of ideas for using the supplies including techniques, tips, and tricks! All of that, including access to exclusive collaborations every four months you are a member, for only $7.50 total per month!

My name is Laura Banasiak and I’m a WAHM (work at home mom) from the Chicagoland area. I’ve been designing digital scrapbook products for four years now, having made Scrap Orchard my home in 2010.

I’ve been lucky enough to have met a whole bunch of digital scrapbooking friends in my trips to Las Vegas for Scrap Orchard’s Digiscrap*apalooza 2011 and 2012 retreats. I’ve made some super fantastic life-long friends because this “hobby” and I couldn’t be more thankful to share my life with these awesome ladies all around the world!

When I create girly products, a lot of the time I will scrapbook about my friends or sisters. I love the rare occasions when the three of us are all together and can manage to snap a picture that I can add to my scrapbooks.

I’ve always been a memory keeper, if not in the traditional sense. For as long as I can remember, I’ve cherished my photo albums and enjoyed flipping through them. I’d stare at the pictures and remember what was happening when the photos were taken. Scrapbooking is definitely a step up, since I can share my stories right there along with the pictures!

I first used Photoshop in late 2006 to create forum signatures for BabyCenter. A little while later, I tried my hand at creating cute scrapbook kits like the ones I had been using in my forum signatures. My domain was purchased in September of 2008, where I first offered freebies before doing a bit of store jumping until Kami of Scrap Orchard called me in late 2010 to invite me onto her team. The rest is history!

Everyday life inspires me. Music, colors, emotions. Sometimes the mood strikes and I search Google or Pinterest for a theme and/or color palette that moves me.

Computer: Dell, my guy is trying to convert me to Mac. 😉
Program: Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Illustrator CS5
Camera: Nikon D90
Anything Else: Scanner: Epson Stylus NX400
Tablet: Wacom Bamboo Fun
Try not to force your layouts. I know that in this community, we get all amped up about creative team requirements and all that, but I can’t stress enough that this should be about your memories first.

favoriteAll of my products are like my babies, so it can be hard to choose a favorite, but I love this one because it is SO my boys. I’ve scrapped pages of each of my sons using this kit and I can see myself using it again.

This oldie but goodie with Captivated Visions still sells over a year later. I think people really appreciate a kit that allows them to scrap ALL emotions.
