A little about me. I’m Valéria, I´m from a small town called Assis in the country side of Sao Paulo, Brazil. I’ve been married to my dear hubby Adriano for 9 years and we have 2 boys, Giovanni and Guilherme. We work together in a small business ad agency here in Brazil as art directors. Besides scrapping and designing I’m very fond of traveling, meeting new people, listening to music, reading, watching a good movie and hanging out with my family.
I created this layout inspired by my hubby because he plays bass in a local rock band here in our home town and loves rock and roll!! I used a template from the amazing Rubia Padilha (Studio Basic) and the elements and papers from my kits This is my Story and I love Rock and Roll. The photo was taken during my father in law’s birthday where my hubby played a few songs as a birthday present to his father. To give this page a special touch I used this sunburst template to create a movement feeling as if the page was filled with rock and roll song. I listened to my favourite punk rock band, The Ramones, while I was creating this page!
I have never been a paper scrapper although I had made a few paper projects in my life. Not that we can count them as real projects, I am just not so good with scissors, glue or paper. I get messy and destroy everything around me before the project is finished!! As I have always worked as an Art Director in Advertising agencies, digi got me right away when I found out about it. My story as a digital scrapbooker started when I was trying to find something to decorate my son´s birthday album. The year was 2009 and I got addicted right away. But it was only last year that I took the courage to get started designing my first kit. I thought, why not? I know how to play with Photoshop and Illustrator because in fact I work with these tools everyday so why not give designing scrapbook kits a try? Now I know that was the best thing I did! I simply love designing.
Pretty much everything. From tooth brush packages to television commercials. My kiddos and hubby are my source of inspiration as well. I’m always paying attention to what they do everyday to create my kits. Another thing I love is Pinterest. It is from there I have been taking color inspiration lately.
Computer: I´ve recently bought an iMac 2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 because my Desktop Dell was not working properly anymore.
Program: I use Photoshop and Illustrator CS5.
Camera: To tell you the truth I don’t want a proper camera!!! I just have a point shoot kodak which I hate so much! When I need to take more professional kind of photos I borrow a Nikon D40 from my MIL. The last time she lent it to me I only got it back after months of use!! Thank goodness she’s an awesome mother in law!!
Anything Else: I also own a wacom bamboo pen which I use to design doodles, elements and wordarts in my kits.
I have a very useful tip that I always use on my pages. It is the layer mask. If I want to hide or mask a content of a layer I often use it. You don’t need to cut a piece of your image, you just need to use the layer mask to hide the portion you don’t want. There are many uses for the layer mask such as burning and dodging specific areas in the image or simply adding depth and shaping your photos in any way you desire. The layer mask is in fact a great tool to a versatile, non-destructive workflow. There are a few great tutorials on the net about this subject.
Bookworm is my favourite because well, I just LOVE reading. I read everything that falls on my hands, from cookbooks to fantasy/vampire stories. I chose vintage/retro colors to design this kit because I have always been fascinated about all those old book covers in the libraries with their amazing stories hidden inside them! Books are a wonderful source of inspiration, all you need to do is open one to start living in a marvelous world full of great characters and stories.
I think this kit is the most popular due to its theme. I think telling a story is the base of any scrapbook layout that´s what makes this kit so special. It is very versatile, you can use it for almost every type of layout. Its colors are good for boys or girls at any age!
