I am so happy to be welcoming back Karen Lewis to The Digi Files! I adore her designs as much today as I did the first time I fell in love with them. I love using her classy, shabby designs to create layouts and document memories. Her beautiful colors, doodles, and patterns create a wonderfully cohesive look. Let’s take a closer look at “Just Another Day ” that is included in The Digi Files this month:

I was born and raise in Perth, Western Australia. I still live here with my husband of 12 years Brad and our daughter Caitlyn (10).
I’m a hybrid girl at heart so when I have time I love to grab a Kelleigh Ratzlaff template or head to The Hybrid Chick to get some inspiration.
I’ve always loved arts and crafts and when my daughter was born I decided to dabble in paper scrapbooking but it didn’t really seem to click. I gave digital a try next which I did prefer and I got a lot of layouts scrapped but after about 5 months I started to get the pull towards wanting to actually design the product rather than scrap with it. I released my first freebie in Dec 2005 and started selling in Dec 2006. I love designing, it really feeds my creativity. I’m so fortunate that I’ve been able to make a living out of doing something I love so much.
These days it is all about colour. I’m constantly on the look out for colour combinations that will spark an idea for a kit. Colours can really set the mood and feel of a kit so once I’ve got that in place the theme of the kit soon comes together.
Computer: I just got myself a new laptop. It is a HP Pavilion DV7. It runs on a 2Nd Generation Intel Core? I7-2670Qm Processor, 8BG RAM, 17.3″ screen and has a 2GB Graphics card.
Program: These days I just use Photoshop CS4 and Illustrator CS5 for designing.
Camera: Canon Powershot A610
Anything Else: I have an old Wacom tablet that is no longer compatible with my new laptop so I’ll be looking to upgrade to a Wacom Intuos4 very soon.
As a designer one thing that I have learned over the past couple of years is the importance of learning as much as I can about design. Learning about colour, patterns & typography and how to use them together effectively. Whilst you should never copy another artists work there is nothing wrong with being inspired by them. So my advise is to absorb yourself in design and art of all kinds and learn, learn and then learn some more. My motto for 2011 was Quality over Quantity.
Sophia was inspired and named after my adorable niece. When I chose the colours I wanted them to be girly but stylish as well. I think I love this kit the most because it is really true to my style and what I love. It is whimsical, a little shabby and hybrid friendly.
I wanted to create a classic everyday kit and you can’t get more classic than black and white. I was inspired by a black & white quilt that I had just finished sewing. The kit is all about taking photos and capturing moments.
