Play it Again–No Photos!

frame by Catherine Designs

The Play it Again posts always inspire me (Katie) and I feel like I’ve expanded my creative universe through this regular feature here at The Daily Digi. I love that we get to see several different ways to scrap the same memory, and it’s just amazing to see all the different ways that there are to document a memory. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to put together a page and it’s fun to explore several types of styles.

The scrappers who help us with this challenge each month are given photos and journaling to use, but the rest is up to them. I decided to make it even more challenging this time around and give them a memory to digi scrap without any photos. I love layouts without photos and I’ve been wanting to do more of them after reading these posts:

After going through my old files, I found this story that I wanted to scrap:

Alex’s Perfect Day at Age 8:

For show and tell at school, Alex had to tell his class what his “perfect day” would be. Mom helped him type up a schedule for such a day

What my favorite day would be like:

I would get up early and have French toast with syrup for breakfast. Then I would play computer and play games. After I played computer I would read for a long time.

Mystery books are my favorites. I would like to go to lunch at European Connection Cafe and have a half attack with different stuff but still hold the olives. Then I would go to the movie theater and see Ice Age which starts today. I would have popcorn and candy with a drink at the movies and Jordan Commons is one of the best places to go. After the movie, I would go to Barnes & Noble and get a Black Lagoon book. A new Disney Adventures Magazine would come in my mail box and I could read them both for a while.

Dinner would be pasta with meatballs without tomato sauce. After that, I would brush my teeth and get ready for bed. My mom would read to me and then I would get to read on my own until it was time to go to sleep.

I had so much fun with this layout! I decided to let doodles illustrate the story of Alex’s perfect day and I rummaged through every relevant kit and element pack I had in my stash to find all of these.

I just love the way Jenn broke up the journaling into step-by-step segments and her layering is fabulous!

This is the perfect type of layout for some great title work. I love the clustering around the title on this page!

How cute is that little doodle guy? He looks a lot like Alex at the age of 8 Smile. I love the fun colors and accents on this page. Great boy page!

The blocked look of this layout is such a clever way to illustrate this story. I’m always a big fan of pennants also!

What style of no-photo layout do your prefer? Take a look again at each one of them and think about the design and style of the page. Make a note of what appeals to you. You will learn a lot about yourself as a scrapper by doing this activity. Remember, there is no “right” or “wrong” here, just different creative expressions of the same memory. If you really want to grow your own digi skills, find a story of your own and create a layout about it without using any photos. It’s ok to try different styles and just have fun!
